N's more than content to let it go on its way, however, and he rocks back on his heels a bit, looking around to see where his friend has gotten to - ah.
He definitely makes eye contact, though he doesn't approach; from what he knows of you, your Pokémon seem to like you, but...hm. Of course, he has no idea that he hasn't met you, specifically, but...

[The word is a bit...unsure, but it's definitely audible; even if he believes the other individual is at least good to their own friends, if N's not discussing Important Matters, he's still a bit human-shy - friendly interactions, how do they work...]

[This...yes, the second instance of talking to him definitely cements that this isn't the same Ash he knows - the other one was speaking through some sort of metallic translating device, and now that he's said a bit more he can definitely hear the difference. Though this brings up another question - there are obviously differences between worlds, and he has no idea how this one handles his friends.]
Might I ask how it hasn't been going well?

[N reaches out behind him, seeing if his Pokémon has caught up with him, and when his fingertips meet cold steel he's more than pleased to see that he has; he gestures his friend to his side, offering pettings (as much as one can pet a set of sentient gears, anyway) while he waits for a reply.]
