[If you're somebody Edmond has met in previous threads, a Zangoose will approach you with an envelope containing a very special invitation. The Pokémon will hand it to you and then disappear into the wilderness ( Read more... )

[Maxie has never really been the sort for gratuitous displays of weaponry like that, though that's less through a lack of interest in weapons and more through the thought that it's a bit like the sword of Damocles, and there's just the generally unshakeable feeling that one day something is going to come down, and it will be very unpleasant when it does. At the same time, he can appreciate it as a statement, he supposes, and between the massive sword collection, elaborate decor and the Magma Emblem - the whole thing more or less makes it rather plain who lives here.

The place is...certainly interesting, if a bit loud. It's not exactly to Maxie's tastes, but he can't help but think vaguely that it suits Edmond.

At least the main room isn't too difficult to find, because he's certainly not about to wander aimlessly through someone else's residence for no real reason; a light smirk crosses his features as his gaze alights upon that figure on the couch.]

Well, Edmond. It seems that the island has provided for you.

[The statement is ( ... )

[Maxie has a Mightyena, right? So he might be able to recognize the look on Edmond's face as he springs to his feet to look at him - the look of a docile pup who's elated to see his master.]

... Ah! Maxie! I knew you would come! Please, make yourself at home!

[He subconsciously mirrors Maxie's sweeping gesture, indicating that he may help himself to the treats or sit near the fireplace with him - there's a chair about a foot closer to the fireplace than the couch, too.

... Also, what does it say about Edmond that he barely bothers to check which Maxie this is before initiating conversation? Then again, in his defense, between the red walls and the fireplace, the entire room is bathed in a scarlet twilight which kind of makes it hard to tell gray eyes from red.]

[Well, this one looks a little less like he's strung out on crack, if that helps any?

But really, he'll just be joining Edmond in sitting close to that fireplace; he considers the chair for a long moment before joining him on the couch - the weather has been turning with a vengeance, and the cold has never been something Maxie is terribly partial to. At the same time, being too close to the fire is uncomfortable, all things considered; the couch is fine.

He does keep his distance, however, settling himself on the opposite end of the couch and crossing his legs idly at the knee before shooting another glance at Edmond.]

What's the occasion, hm?

[Edmond sits back down and - ah - they're sitting on the same piece of furniture together now? That's... absolutely wonderful! It makes Edmond blush a little.]

Ah, there's no special occasion, I... I just wanted you to know where I live. I assume you saw the lock?

[He's very proud of that lock. It's the best lock there is. ;-; It means that anyone from Team Magma is always welcome in his house!]

[Well, Team Magma and those children - Maxie really ought to start kicking some grunts into crevasses for that one, whenever he gets back to Hoenn.

But, for now...!]

That I did - well done.

[He'll just. Pause for a moment and take this all in, if you don't mind, Edmond.]

I assume this is at least similar to your home back in Hoenn, then...?

Well, the Flamberge mansion is far bigger than this. It has much more space for my collections, and my guests. And it's better built, too. [He gestures to the ceiling.] It's too high - heating rooms here takes far too much energy.

At least the color scheme and some of the furniture are identical. ... Ah, you saw the swords, too? It's only a small portion of a much bigger whole, but some of those are my personal favorites - though I'm fond of every single one of them, really.

Well, even if it's not exact, it must be nice to have something that's close, at any rate.

[He shifts a bit on the couch, though he doesn't lean back; he's reasonably comfortable around Edmond at this point, but not entirely relaxed.]

I take it you've been doing well lately, then? Nothing unfortunate?

I've been doing fairly well, yes, but... something happened. [He frowns slightly.] I wouldn't, by any means, call it unfortunate, but...

[He closes his eyes.]

It's a rather delicate matter, and I believe I might need your advice.

... Would you like something to eat first?

[He shoots Edmond a bit of an odd look before shaking his head, the gesture brief. This has caught his attention, you see, and anything that starts out in such a way can't possibly be a promising thing, whether Edmond considers it unfortunate or not. Especially given that Maxie can't exactly say that he trusts Edmond's judgment...]

Ah, perhaps later - let's hear what's on your mind first.

[He takes a long, deep breath, his crimson eyes fixed on the flames.]

Shortly after arriving here, I found a child, his hair as fiery as yours, his eyes mysteriously devoid of that energetic spark that one would expect to find in a twelve-year old... I listened to his story, learned how he had allowed himself to sink to the lowest depths, but saw how he still has the heart and soul of a hero... And I told him I would accept him as my son.

[He sighs.]

It turns out... he's in love with me.

[He slowly turns towards Maxie with an expression that clearly signifies "what should I do?", the corners of his mouth pulled downwards.]

[...UM. Well. That's horribly, horribly awkward, isn't it.]

...I genuinely hope you turned him down.

I... I have tried, but... He's already suffered a lot in his life, Maxie.

... I'll try to be more firm about my refusal, if that's what you want me to do.

He's twelve. I'd think it should be fairly obvious that you shouldn't be encouraging that.

[He nods.] Indeed... I'm relieved that you see it like that, Maxie. Thank you.

... At the same time, I don't want to hurt him. He's miserable enough as he is, the poor thing. I'll do my best to be near him... It just won't be the way he'd like me to.

Of course I see it like that. I'm not even sure why this requires advice - I mean, what is the alternative here? Getting involved with a twelve-year-old?

[...please tell him that you're not actually interested in that option.]

Oh, rest assured I have no intention to do anything like that, but... I could definitely tell that he'd be happy if it could happen. And... the details are unpleasant, but, trust me, Maxie, there's been so much unhappiness in his life... Not being able to requite his feelings makes my heart ache with tremendous guilt. I... I really hope he finds someone his age. Someone better than me, hopefully.
