It's hard to be indifferent and just look the other way

Apr 03, 2010 01:32

[With a few exceptions, Charon hasn't left his home for several weeks, primarily for reasons he would much rather forget. Whatever the cause, he is out with Rotom now, and seems to be in the process of... training?]

Thunderbolt, at your highest possible voltage.

[Rotom fires a bolt of electricity at a nearby tree, reducing it to splinters. The ( Read more... )

[Luckily, Hikaru just happened to have her Ampharos walking with her, countering the Thunderbolt with his own Thundershock as soon as he saw it going for his oblivious Trainer.]

Huh? W-woah...thanks Candeo.

[Hikaru glares at Charon, looking darn well annoyed.]

Oi, oi, whatcha think you're doin'?! Yer gonna end up hurtin' someone!

[This new electrical presence seems to perk Rotom up just the slightest bit, though it is far from dispelling its weariness. Charon appears indifferent to Hikaru's indignant statement.]

I am currently in the process of conducting some tests. Any who enter this area carelessly are entirely at fault if they are caught off-guard by an attack.

[She put a hand on her Ampharos's head, petting it lightly.]

You gotta be kiddin' me. Yer gonna go blastin' anybody that walks through here, y'know!

I shall reiterate once more. Any person who enters this area will do so at their own risk.

If you must raise such an objection to this, then I shall grant you this single opportunity to depart. Remain here, and you may be subject to these tests yourself.

Tests, huh? [That sounded like a challenge.]

[Hikaru likes this idea.]

Return, Candeo. [She recalled her Ampharos, tossing another Pokeball to herself for a moment or two.]

If it's a fight y'want, it's a fight you'll get. Let's go, Ignis--Flame Wheel! [She threw the Pokeball up in the air, calling out a Quilava that curled into a ball and spun like a Catherine wheel, coming down towards Rotom and Charon.]

[Charon had somewhat expected this sort of reaction; pesky children do have a tendency to think they can just jump in whenever they wish, after all. As such, seeing Quilava's incoming attack does little to phase him.]

... hmph. Very well.

Rotom, counter it with a Shadow Ball.

[Aww, no more electrical source. What a downer. Rotom turns itself upside-down so that it is looking up at Quilava, bringing its arms together to create a ball of dark energy.]

Shadowball... !

[The attack is draining upon an already-drained Rotom, so the Shadow Ball is only half-formed when it is fired up towards Quilava.]

[fffff not Shadow Ball, that gavethem so much trouble against Morty...Quilava was hit by it, landing on the ground in a daze for a moment or two before shaking it off the best he could.]

T-try a Smokescreen and another Flame Wheel! [Quilava took a breath and spouted a cloud of thick black smoke around Rotom before charging forward and curling into a ball, somersaulting towards Rotom in a ball of fire.]

[Smokescreen? That'd be no problem with an Ominous Wind to blow it away, except that Rotom can't remember how to use the move. Not that it would help anyway, really.]

Iiiih?!

[Without any means of blowing away the Smokescreen, Rotom is caught off-guard by the Flame Wheel, and howls in pain when the flames connect.]

Good work, Ignis! Now finish it off with an Ember!

[This'll just be Quilava, flaring up the flames on its back and throwing some little smoldering bits in your direction.]

[Rotom's electrical aura flickers as it screeches some more, writhing at the embers as they make contact. This display of suffering doesn't seem to affect Charon negatively; in fact, he actually smiles at it.]

... excellent. Such a state is what we have worked for, Rotom. Let us begin the true test.

Pain Split.

[Though it feels like it's going to collapse any second, a smile immediately forms across Rotom's features at the command.]

Yesyesyes!

[Since this attack's not debuted in the anime yet, the mun is just taking liberties. Rotom's electrical aura shifts from light blue to an even lighter orange, and a stream of energy flares out from its form, heading right for Quilava.]

[HOLY MOTHER OF ARCEUS WHAT]

[Quilava was hit hard, dazed and stumbling.]

I-Ignis...?! What the heck was that?!

[When the attack connects, it drains some of Ignis' energy and transfers it into Rotom until the two are of equal stamina levels. Assuming Ignis was at full stamina prior, this will make it weaker; Rotom, on the other hand was already weakened, and so finds the new energy to be refreshing.]

Yayayayayayaaaaay!

[Provide the opportunity to pontificate, and Charon will take it.]

It is Pain Split, a rather peculiar technique. Observation has shown it to be a means of balancing the stamina of the two Pokémon involved in its use. In an extreme scenario such as this, it will raise the stamina of the more exhausted Pokémon while lowering that of the stronger Pokémon.
