this cripple bird's gonna sing

[ Sometimes, the island was really, really awesome.

Anyone near the north-west of the CMA might hear the sound of a a song (or at least an acceptable attempt at it), shaky and hesitant. The notes waver distinctly, and every so often the music will stop entirely and start over ( Read more... )

[From close-by, the sound of light, inhuman, chirping notes are heard - similar to a bird, yet still unlike any kind of bird...

...but then the music stops, and so does that singing.]

[ Huh... Dawn looks around curiously, tipping her head to the side in interest. ]

Is anyone there?

[some melodious a capella chirps next - there's something a little other-worldly about it. She seems to be 'winging it' YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH now.

Sounds like it's coming from above...]

[Angie hasn't been out and about on this island nearly as much as she would like; much of her time here has been spent either dealing with her leader and...whatever broke inside his head, or spending time by that beach that all the Hoennites seem drawn to nowadays. But for now, she has time to herself, meaning exploring is a good thing and so...is...figuring out where that music is coming from, what in the world...

She'll watch in silence until this girl takes a break - rude to do otherwise, after all! - and she doesn't miss the words said; she remains where she is when she responds, her head cocked slightly to the side, but the smile is pleasant, at least.]

If it's been that long, that actually wasn't bad.

Huh?

[ Dawn glances over in surprise, tightening her fingers around the bow. She hadn't noticed she had an audience of any sort, and it makes her wince a little to think of how bad that must have sounded. Still, she ducks her head in the closest thing she could do to a bow when her instrument was nearly her size. ]

Thank you.

Oh! Sorry to startle you, it wasn't my intention.

[She'll keep the smile as she comes a little closer, closing a bit of the distance between them; she doesn't do so nearly enough to invade anyone's personal bubble, just enough to make talking a bit easier.]

And don't mention it; string instruments are such beautiful things. Have you been playing long?

No worries, I don't mind.

[ She settles back in her chair, carefully shifting her cello so she can be more comfortable. The case is propped up against the back of the chair, a very black block behind her. ]

I started lessons when I was... Seven or eight, I think.

[Red just stands and watches for a while. He's always liked strings, particularly those of the lower range. Violins were always too squeaky.

At any rate, at the end of your practice, have some polite, quiet clapping from the guy in the cloak over here.]

Hey, it's still not that bad. [You should've heard his first attempts at the bass. Would have been enough to boost your ego for a long time]
