[There is Lucas. There is a rock. There is a Clefairy.]

Use Metronome!

[The pokémon waves her arms, and then starts trying to pull energy from the rock. Mega Drain. It doesn’t work too well, so the normal-type turns back to Lucas with a shake of the head.]

That’s fine. Metronome!

[Clefairy leaps for the rock, striking it with a Headbutt, then ( Read more... )

...Ah, Lucas.

[he was on his way to cake, but science generally trumps cake.]

I see you're researching Metronome, then.

Professor! ...Yeah, I'm researching! Researching.

[Nearby, Clefairy throws up her arms and releases a flurry of Powder Snow.]

[...was he just messing around? Well, at any rate, it is allowing him to learn more about it, so Rowan doesn't say anything.]

Hmm. I've never really been much for researching moves, myself, though attempting to discover how Metronome works could be an interesting topic. ...Of course, as with all things related to Pokemon, there's a possibility that it could simply be beyond our understanding.

[Messing around? Lucas? ABSOLUTELY NOT PROFESSOR HE'S DOING REAL WORK PROFESSOR.]

Either way, I'll do my best! I was curious if some moves appeared more than others.

Hmm... have any, then?

Not any one in particular, but moves from certain regions seem to appear more than others. Especially Kanto and Johto.

Hm... interesting. They are native to the Kanto-Johto area, so that makes sense, but they're native to Sinnoh, as well...

You're right! I haven't actually seen a lot of-Metronome!-of Sinnoh moves. I wonder if it's all really random, or if the difference is because Metronome is a Kanto attack, too?

[Clefairy releases a flurry of grass at the rock. Interest perked, Lucas pulls out his pokédex and starts taking notes, reading the description given for the move.]

...Grass Pledge. I think it originated in Unova?

It's possible-

...they can use moves from Unova? But why haven't I seen them before, then...?

faithfulassist April 15 2011, 23:51:56 UTC
I'm not sure. I'd never seen any before I got here, either...

usedellipses April 16 2011, 00:43:55 UTC
Hm... well, as there are Unova Pokemon here... perhaps being exposed to those Pokemon gave your Clefairy access to their moves?

faithfulassist April 16 2011, 04:27:24 UTC
I hadn't thought of that! Do you think that might be it?

usedellipses April 16 2011, 04:28:18 UTC
It's possible, though I think it would require further study.

faithfulassist April 16 2011, 04:29:54 UTC
Well, I'll keep on it, then!

[...Right. Study.]

I'm not sure if these are the right conditions to test that hypothesis, though...

[O-Oh. Oops. Hang on, Lucas, you can fix this yet...]

W-Well. Uh, what do you think I should try doing instead? Professor.
