Consider his reprieve cancelled.

[He had been aware of the town's presence for several days before he went anywhere near it.

He'd remained outside of it. Pacing the outskirts. Waiting. Things like this simply don't happen on this island, after all - at least not for no reason. But for three days, there was nothing outside the town that wouldn't be considered normal. The town was ( Read more... )

[Ruby's not been in Silent Hills for most of the time. After all, it's Not His Problem. Not touching things that are Not His Problem has served him well in the past! He probably should keep at it.

But he hasn't! Maybe his Dex Holder spirit is actually working today, and he's taking a cautious look at this dangerous place. Maybe it's strange orb-related shenanigans. Maybe it's just plain bad luck. But he happens to be on the outskirts of the town, examining one of the houses with a look of concentration.]

Due to the FAMILY-FRIENDLY CANON, you cannot swear at this misfortune. But how you wish there was such an option.

Which is to say that Ruby is caught mostly unaware here. But he will not be pleased if when approached.]

[...You. He remembers you. It's been a while. But he remembers. Cave of Origins, right, grabbing you by the neck with your collar buried in his fist and if he can't defeat you now he'll take you with him -

But for now there's no Kyogre - nothing he can sense in the immediate area anyway - and yet you're. still. here, aren't you?

So yes, he does approach, that same dark, snarling laugh escaping him as he does so. It's been so long, Ruby. And there's business to settle.]

[There really isn't much Silent Hills could throw at him that would be more traumatizing than just hearing that laugh. He turns to the source and...that is a really bad sign, isn't it? The last time Maxie was in that kind of condition...well, it wasn't pretty.

There's a dull ache in one hand. He hopes that it's just psychological.

Either way, he's going to take a step back and try to do his best to look around as much as he can without obviously moving his head or eyes.]

Hey, Maxie! It's been a while since I saw you. [...This probably isn't going to work this time, is it?]

[No. No, it isn't.

He doesn't respond to the usage of his name, or even really acknowledge that words have been spoken at all; his gaze remains locked on Ruby, that distant, smirking expression not leaving his features.

His pace is deliberate. Predatory. Altering course a bit to circle around instead of approaching head-on. He's assessing, though it's a bit hard to say exactly what.

Let's see how close you let him get.]

[It would be a waste of time to say "but that's impossible!" He's going to have to conclude that chances are pretty good that Maxie's lost it again.

For a brief moment, he contemplates attempting to deal with Maxie himself. But, not only is that a dumb idea, it would also be a big pain.

So, before he gets within three arms' reach, Ruby raises a hand in a wave.] Normally, I'd love to catch up...

Go go Running Shoes! He's going to attempt to dart past here.]

[As clever as you may be, there's one very vital thing to remember when it comes to dealing with predators, Ruby.

Running from them only makes them think about pursuing you.

And Maxie's been in this town long enough to know that heading in that direction, you're not going anywhere. So even if you do get past him Ruby - and you will do that rather well - it's less a matter of catching you and more a matter of trying to figure out where you'll end up.

He'll pursue directly for now, to keep an eye on you, but he's definitely paying attention to where you're going.]

[He'll actually find that not a big problem. He's pretty sure he's not used his Running Shoes in front of Maxie, so it might not seem so suspicious that he's not going at full speed. Rather, he's going at a speed just slightly faster than he expects that Maxie could follow at.

He might not be able to deal with Maxie directly on his own, but he's not going to leave him for someone uninvolved to run into and get hurt. As much as he hates it, Maxie is his responsibility.

Unfortunately, in order to keep from running into innocent bystanders while he takes the time to think and possibly consider how to contact help, he thinks it logical to go further into a quiet area rather than out into a more public space. That is, further into Silent Hills. Uh-oh.

He rubs an ear. What's with that music?]

[It takes him a moment to notice the music, that sharp, slow rise and fall of notes and other general sounds that Should Not Be There; once he does, however, you'll soon find that you have all the lead you might possibly need in terms of distance, Ruby, because it manages to stop him entirely. He pulls up short, nearly staggering forward as he does so, his body tensing up as he freezes entirely.

He avoids the areas of this town with music. The music brings screaming and fear and it'll rip you away if you listen to it long enough, rip you away and you can feel that pain and pressure in your head and all you want to do is get it out and ( ... )
