Resident Evil 5
Yes, I know this game came out almost two years ago, I'm catching up on the queue. First off, this is a must play for any Resident Evil fan, but if you're expecting to get scared, stow that. It is a good game, don't get me wrong, but great, no. And the only reason I say it isn't great is because Resident Evil is supposed to be a scary game, and it really wasn't. But also, they added this player who, for a lack of a better word, was pretty much Tails in this game: annoying and got in the way.
To start off, the good: the same things that you loved about RE4 are here. The over-the shoulder perspective and the non-movement while shooting is here and preserved and that made the controls feel familiar and normal. The animation and graphics are all top notch, it is a great looking game. Instead of having a person you buy from, you upgrade and buy new things before starting each chapter or after dying.
The not so great: the AI character that follows you around. I know why they added this, so you could play the game with a friend, but more times than not, she got in the way, used up ammo like no body's business and was generally not of much help for the most part. In a few sections, I know I died because of it, but by that same token, in a few sections it helped me get further. Based on that, you'd think it'd be a wash, but no, it was more annoying and I found myself muttering derogatory comments about her as I played.
Play through time, maybe a couple weekends, so it was much shorter than the last. I upgraded a couple weapons to their max, but feel no desire to ever play the game again.
Overall, I was underwhelmed by the game. The game was not scary at all. It was more like God of War or something, it was a challenge, and things jumped out at you, but the ambiance was lacking. At no point were you in a place where you were terrified. It just didn't feel very Resident Evil-y.
I am glad I played it, and I think most people should play it, but overall, not a great addition to the series. A nice start, but lacking. I did like the random back story I'd been unfamiliar with up until then. Fun game, but not great.
Hmm, otherwise...I don't think I have much...nope...nothing really, really exciting - hope I didn't miss any b-days! peace out :)
