I read two books while on vaca, Second Glance and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - I think I should put the titles above the cuts...which I'll try to start doing :)
Second Glance
I'd never read a Jodi Picoult book before, so I have to admit, her writing style is quite good, but, there was so much going on and quite a bit of the book was very, very unbelievable, given the context. A good read, but long, 400+ pages, and that's where I started skimming...that's how I know I'm getting bored ;)
The basic premise follows about 10 different characters and their lives intersect through happen-stance, and that's what makes the story both compelling and, in a way, absurd. The story is well written, but the narrative takes over sometimes...I'm not sure I'd give this book a rec or not...
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
I'm not sure what to say about this book, it took me about 2.5 hours to read, so it's a quick read...the story follows a 15-year-old kid who's autistic, I think, and the book took me to a very uncomfortable place. Which, I expect, means it was written well, but it made me feel out of sorts and I wasn't crazy about that...the book club meeting for this is Wednesday, so I'll see what everyone else says :)
