what got into her?

Good Afternoon :) I'm heading out this weekend, but I wanted to do a quick review of a book I just finished so I don't forget it as I read another book ;)

The Elegance of a Hedgehog

It's hard to sum this book up - but basically it follows two characters. An older lady who is a concierge in an apartment building and a young girl who's 13 and suicidal. A strange combination from the get-go, but it turns out the little girl is more in tune with things than not.

There was an obvious subtext that, being American, I wasn't quite getting - but apparently the 'class' system is very much alive and well and that was one of the main issues in the book. A new person moves into the apartment building and wants to engage the concierge in something other than just apartment-related things and it is quite the to-do.

If nothing, the prose alone is what is worth reading about this book. The word usage is delightful. And for me to use a word like delightful has to mean something, right ;) I don't know what else to say except I really enjoyed the progress the characters made evolving into a more mature person. I don't think I'm giving this book the right review, but I enjoyed it :)

okay, I have to finish packing and then I'm out 'til Tuesday! Have a fab weekend!!
