Good Afternoon Everyone :) I feel like I just updated...but it's been a solid few days of quiet from me :) a big thank you to princess_narnia, duskspoken, londonesque and mariarita for the virtual gifts - thank you so much!
and as an update to my Christmas card post *which was just a general mention* I'll be sending those out in the next day or so. Again, if I have your address and got a card from you last year, you're getting a card :) I saw 2012 yesterday

As the review says at Rotten Tomatoes (which is where the image links to), the movie was visually stunning. The story was a tad weak. The movie starts now, in 2009, and follows a pair of scientists who discover that the earth's core is reaching massive temps. The scientists inform the leaders of the world and the audience see them make decisions that are not shared with the general public.
The story moves quickly to 2012, when the main character is some random author who happens to figure out that something is going on after hearing something from some kids he drops off to school and some crazy radio guy (played by Woody Harrleson). As soon as he realises what is happening, he tries to get his family to safety.
It takes a bit of leap to believe that the family manages to get as far as they do. And although the effects are amazing, there are some amazing performances, the story just does not hold up all that well. The story bounces back-and-forth between about 4-6 different story lines and it's hard to latch onto any one firmly.
John Cusak turns in a pretty solid performance, but his days as a leading man should be numbered. He's a fantastic actor, don't get me wrong, but a leading man with no other solid supporting cast? And in a drama/action movie? I wasn't sold.
It was a good movie, but to put it mildly, I wouldn't buy it on DVD. I'd say watch it for the effect, but don't expect too much and be ready for an almost 3 hour adventure.
