speak my mind

Good Morning :) I apologise for being MIA over the weekend, things got a little hectic and I've been running around a lot...thankfully, the Giants did not play this weekend...do we need an update on the fact that the Wolverines lost again? Probably not...but they lost, 45-20 to Wisconsin...

I saw Cate Blanchett in A StreetCar Named Desire over the weekend at the Kennedy Centre...well, let's just say, now I remember why I never liked Tennessee Williams...it is not a 'good' play...I mean, I don't like it. I never liked it. I wanted to see Cate, we had box seats, I'm not sure I can even say I was glad I went. I don't want to sound utterly uncultured, but I did not enjoy it at all. At least I got to see her live and in-person :)

This is my third Mary Doria Russell book and I am happy to say I really, really enjoy her writing! This book is set in WWII and follows a variety of characters as they are protected and hidden by Italians from the Nazis. It's hard to hold onto one main point of the story. You have at least two dozen characters to follow, all of which have various levels of involvement in the main plot.

As with many of her other books, there is a lot of death and loss, but at least in this one, some of the things that happened, happened slowly. I know in The Sparrow, things ended somewhat abruptly, but in this one, the time-line was straightforward and things happened as they did in the war, I imagine.

I honestly can't think of anything I really didn't like about it, save that it was over 400 pages and that was a lot of reading. I did not even finish it in time for book club, and it was my choice! I'm trying to think of something to say and all I have is I really enjoyed it and I am sure most of you would enjoy her writing too. Or at least glance at my Shelfari and see if we have similar interests.

so, yes, good book, an automatic fav! Not sure if any of you are interested, but this was a nice surprise that I almost didn't catch:

I won Most Favourite in this past week's round at dramione_ldws, not bad, I think :) I also won Mod's Choice - it's a rumble, but I signed up late, so I don't know how that's going to play out, but I get points or something...I am trying to think of something clever for this week...

hope you all are enjoying your week, in case anyone was curious, I did manage to get Flash to almost do what I wanted it to...but it's doing a couple wonky things, so...yeah...
