Maki felt a wave of nostalgia hit her, accompanied by strange feeling that she couldn't pinpoint, as she saw Yamapi's face staring at her from the magazine cover. She had once said in an interview that he didn't make her heart beat faster simply because she regarded him as a colleague. Her heart had been crazily skipping when he watched her intently for her answer. He looked away from her as she lied blantantly. At that moment, she hated herself for putting her career and her image before him.
If only I could turn back time... She slowed down as she neared the magazine stand but she was still walking, still moving forward. She passed it by.
Masochist. Stop missing someone you're not supposed to miss. Stop missing someone who doesn't miss you anymore. Yet, barely ten steps later, she whirled around, quickening her steps, not giving the rational part of her brain time to reconsider. Self-consciously, she paid for the magazine and carefully put it into her bag.
