An interesting read

I recently felt like watching some slow and peaceful anime, so I decided on Macroeconomics, the Anime Spice and Wolf.
While looking for it, I also found some of the light novels that it is based on.
They are pretty interesting to read, although the pacing is still rather slow. Then again, that's sort of the point. Spice and Wolf doesn't tell stories of grand adventures and Big Damn Heroes, but is much more about the day to day life of medieval(ish) people, more specifically a traveling merchant by the name of Lawrence.
It's rather lacking in descriptions of people, so having seen the anime helped. (I think it took two chapters to mention that Lawrence has a beard.) As far as I know, the print version has some pictures to go with important scenes, though, so I guess that's why.

Overall they're a really nice way to pass a slow evening, it's easy to see why they won a second prize in a writing contest.
And I also found that there are official English translations and prints for them (available at Amazon, so I might just buy hem). :D
