I'm kinda new to all this LJ community stuffness - but I've been invited here by Irene, and since I pretty much mostly draw PokeMon these days I figured, what the hey. ^^
So... Hai. I'm StellarWind Elsydeon, or just Stel for short. My favorite types are Grass, Dragon, Dark, Fighting and Bug (not necessarily in thar order) and I'm a biology freak - which tends to show in my stuff. I've spawned a hell of a lot of PokeMon art over the years, and most likely I'll be posting large batches of them for a while.
Well, let's start this off with... well... Starters! Under this cut is a whole bunch of art of the 12 starters revealed so far of the first four generations (I'll keep the Gen 5 stuff for a later post out of respect for those who only want to deal with the first four gens) and their immediate evolutions. Some other species are included in some cases, but for the most part it's starters.
Expect some biological theories in text forme along with the images. I know they're not everyone's cup of tea, so feel free to tl;dr'em and just look at the art. ^^
Because every journey must begin somewhere...
This was made long before the above, but I'm still quite fond of the way Treecko and Turtwig ended up.
The Bulbasaur Line. I had a bit of a hard time getting Venusaur to look quite the way I like it, but I'm quite happy with the result. ^^
The Charmander Line. I see them as having multiple subspecies, more or less plumed depending on habitat. The variant often raised in 'starter farms' to be given out to new trainers is lacking in plumes with the exception of the special 'flint' plumes at the tip of the tail - these rub against each other, forming sparks. A fluid secreted from a gland at the tip of Charmander's tail as part of its natural metabolism is ignited by these sparks, burning a steady flame - thus, the richness of the flame is an indication of the Charmander's health.
The Squirtle Line. I always had a bit of an issue with the line being water-type and yet not really looking aquatic. As such my Squirtle/Wartortle combine elements of water turtles such as the red-eared slider. The cannons on Blastoise are actually composed of powerful hydraulic muscles surrounded by a protective biometallic shell (to keep the muscles from expanding too much and protect them) which can, when not really in use, retract into the shell. When in use, they are extended, water is pressurized greatly and is then release in torrents. I still have no clue where the water comes from. Water types are a huge damn mystery. XD
And there's the first discrepancy from the starter theme - this however was the only picture I had on me that had a really good Meganium in it and wasn't full of fanmades. Featuring my current SouSilver team - Aranyani the Meganium, Denryuu the Ampharos, Gaira the Heracross, Astera the Starmie, Kyria the Girafarig and Gneiss the Aggron. Gneiss turned out kinda meh. I need to redraw her at some point. Aggrons ain't easy.
Here's another - Kaori was created as a 'rival' character of sorts to my main SoulSilver character, and her team complements his type-wise: Typhlosion to counter Aranyani, Xatu to counter Heracross, Shiftry to counter Astera, Poliwrath to counter Gneiss, Tyranitar to counter Kyria and... well, I never figured out what ground-type she'll have to counter Denryuu. In this picture though, she is shown with the first three members of her team when they were in their first stage. The Cyndaquil is the reason this is posted. XD
These were done on Paintchat. I'm REALLY not a fan of Feraligatr and Prinplup, but I wanted to try drawing them my style. I kinda envision Feraligatr being only quasi-bipedal... kind of like a big gorilla-croc. Mamoswine is just there because he was drawn in the same session an I like the thing.
Grovyle, Shipainter, what more is there to say?
Sceptile, drawn my style. I not a Sceptile fan, but I tried making it look appealing to myself. I guess that imagining it as a Dilophosaurid helps somewhat... even if it STILL kinda looks like a giant Treeckosaurus Rex with christmas lights running along is back and a christmas tree firmly wedged up it posterior to me.
Yes, another OC, she represents my second-to-latest runthrough of Emerald. Her name is Soleil, and the Torchic that walks by her side is her starter, Oradella, by now a Blaziken.
Drawn simply because someone said that they could never see Combusken as being awesome. I had to prove them wrong. Hey, Irene did that to me with Magmortar once. >>; Marshtomp and NINJA NONSEQUITOR WHOO Grovyle just kinda happened. ^^;
Gracilis, a Swampert belonging to another one of my characters. She's a wild subspecies from the Mangrove swamps around Mossdeep - hence the markings and slight differences in form.
"The majestic Torterra have very few natural enemies in the wild. Indeed, few are the creatures that will attempt to attack these peaceful armored behemoths. But this young, recently-evolved and slightly overconfident Luxio may be yet foolhardy enough to try.
The Torterra is unimpressed by the feline's attempt of intimidation, and bellows in response, possibly to warn the cat to clear off, before it accidentally gets itself hurt. These creatures are capable of generating massive earthquakes, which would prove devastating for this young electric-type lion."
Curiously enough, I keep picturing the Torterra thinking all "Awww, lookit the kitty! ^^"
Random Chimchar is Random.
My team from the second time I played Diamond, featuring Charlie the Infernape, Advil the Golduck (his name was far more appropriate as a Psyduck @_@), Chez the Luxray (And her Murdersauce Grass Hidden Power), Avalon the Lucario and Londo the Weavile (Babylon 5 refernces FTW).
Yes, this also has a fanmade. Ever since Empoleon was first revealed I wanted to draw a picture of it battling my Rockhopper Penguin Puffin Hybrid PokeMon, an Ice/Fighting species named Pengladius. Eventually I did. This is that battle. XD
And lastly, just for the This Is Incredibly Silly value...
I don't know either. I really don't.
Yes, it was MEANT to look half-assed.
There. I hope I didn't scare you away with the sheer magnitude of STUFF (And there's even more) - but I'll try to keep my future batches smaller. XD
