In a sense, they were both using each other so there was no need to feel guilty. Silver never planned to come back at all to this dreadful, cold mountain, and yet, he couldn't stop climbing back to the peak. He always told himself this time would be the last time, but he never fulfilled his own promises. Red is like a drug (he had to blame it on someone in order not to feel guilty), it only drags you down, but you can't live without it. It wasn't his fault he kept returning.

But the truth is, he knew he wasn't the only one taking his frustration out on the invincible trainer - be it in a Pokémon battle or against the frozen walls. He knew that Red only put up with him this far because that arrogant Viridian Gym leader stopped coming right after he first showed up. He didn't know what had been going on between them before and didn't care. Both Silver and Red had their own reasons to keep seeing each other. They were the ones being selfish in their own way.

OP here. I love it, thanks! :D The song will own you, I swear. Whenever I listen to it I have to listen to it 2 or 3 times before I'm satisfied. Now it'll probably be even MORE because I'll have this to think about.
