Man, I wasn't expecting Ash to win against Takuto but man, with Latios I feel like the entire pokemon anime-watching community has been massively trolled.
I do wonder though, if Ash could have had a better chance of winning if he had Charizard instead of Torkoal. I mean, it seems like a big stretch but Charizard has knocked out half of an opponent's team before so yeah.
Fun episode though and I'm super psyched for Isshu now /o/
Like, in the anime Legendaries always seem off-limits to capture unless you are super-special-awesome and your family was guardian of blah and special for a 1000 years, or you were a bad guy. I thought this guy was a bad guy, and they TALKED ALL HAPPY.
And it's just- Ash had such an AMAZING battle with Paul that spanned three episodes, and he got wiped by SOME DUDE in one. It felt cheap and and was such a let down.
But I'm still excited for the new series and stuff. :)
If you think about it, only a few legendaries are explicitly off-limits in the anime, and they're usually those that guard something. And even then there's a leeway. Regigigas is clearly a guardian but no one had any problem with Brandon trying to catch it.
It felt like the directors realized that Ash had become legitimately skilled enough to win the tournament, so they basically had to throw epic bullshit his way so they could have him lose because status quo is god.
I wouldn't find it so what the fuck if Takuto actually had a role in the anime and development beyond kicking Ash's ass-even though people disliked Ritchie, at least he and Ash met before the tournament and had meaningful interaction. The guy will probably never show up again after this, either. This way it just feels artificial.
Hopefully they'll either let him win or give him a more natural defeat in Isshu. I'm not betting on it though.
I think we really were trolled on purpose. They seem to be very much mocking us lately with paul (competitive battler anyone?) and this guy was obviously the noob kid who spams legendaries because they are too lazy to go through training and strategies. But fuck, in the show legendaries aren't touchable in battle by normal pokemon, unlike the game when they are just a bitch to catch, that is just not fair.
