A Hookie Day With Family
I wake up and take no pictures because I forgot. I quickly get dressed and drive Remy and Matteo to school. So many empty carseats...
Andrea had warned me to leave earlier because I would get stuck behind a bus. I didn't think anything of it. I ended up getting stuck behind two buses and a garbage truck - it was a very slow drive...
Remy had been telling me that she could actually skip. To be honest, I didn't believe her. Learning how to actually skip over the rope as it spins instead of just back and forth as it lays on the ground is normally something they learn in second year kindergarten. But she has got it down. She as so proud to show me :)
I can't listen to Andrea whine and ask me for things, I just can't say no to her most of the time: except when it comes to livestock. She had asked for another salt lamp for the living room so I stop at the local hippie store to get one for her.
They also have organic tortilla chips and hot salsa on sale so I pick some up and munch as I sit in the van because I didn't get breakfast. Mmmm Spicy!
I have some time before I can do my sole errand for the morning so I stop and Starbucks and with my free drink (cause I'm a gold member!) I get a giant ass coffee and something else to snack on and pretty much play on my phone while I wait.
My errand! I have to go to the yarn store and buy yarn! Only not for me :( Andrea needs another skein for a sweater she is knitting, Roman needs some brown for a pirate sash he wants to make, Kahlan needs some for a hat she wants to knit as she is almost done her hand warmers, Remy is finger knitting up a storm so she gets a ball (which by the way she finished in like 3 days), and Teo has been asking off and on for some to finger knit so I grab some for him too.
Andrea has left me with no gas, and she would be panicking at the amount I have driven with the gas light on. So I fill up for her. I'm nice that way.
I arrive home and Roman and Kahlan are outside digging underneath a big rock unearthing a giant crystal. They have come far but I don't know how they will move the giant rock.
The baby wakes and I retrieve him from upstairs. I love warm baby fresh from sleep.
Kahlan, Jove and I start a load of laundry.
Then I tackle the always disaster of a kitchen.
Andrea sweeps the living room. Messy houses drive me nuts lol.
Jove and I get down to some serious car business. This is his serious car business face, I know by this point not to mess with where he puts them.
We have this sniffing game...we also have a game where we eat each other's faces...but yk..it's hard to get a picture of that
Then Andrea and I head out with Kahlan, Roman, and of course the baby to pick up the kids from school.
We pick up the kids, and then I take the girls (who of course wanted to come) to the grocery store to pick up some supplies for a later activity: rice krispie peanut butter balls!
I am almost back at the school when Andrea texts me and says to pick up coffee for us and a friend. So I drive to the coffee shop I used to work at. We didn't leave things on the most kosher of terms so I was nervous to go in and hoping she wouldn't recognize me. She did, and it was fine - we were both adults about things. Coffee procured.
I return to the school and wander around, but we can't find the rest of the family anywhere so we park it at a picnic table and wait.
Eventually we find everyone and head to a grassy spot on the field to eat a snack: nectarines (btw when it the season for nectarines? I have no clue...).
We go back home after visiting with friends. and start our baking. The kids loved doing the math and counting as we baked, and of course eating marshmallows!
Then they form them into little balls, put carob ships on half and we wait for after dinner to eat them. Excitement level is high.
Mishmash for dinner. Couscous, roasted chickpeas, and scrambled eggs.
Andrea knits and nurses as dinner cooks.
I feel like the kids spend a large portion of their day eating....
Craig arrives home, immediately putting on pj's and eating our baking. He laments the presence of peanut butter though.
The kids play for a bit and then Matteo and Remy are off to bed without much protest. Craig reads the older kids a story..
After they are in bed as well, Craig does this to me....for some reason...
I update my facebook status after a parenting conversation. It seems these are happening more frequently as our kids get older. It's hard to get three people to agree on what is the best course of action for various issues that come up.
Because we didn't have dinner, we go to a local pub we haven't tried before and grab some take out. It wasn't awful but wasn't that stellar either.
The other adults go to bed and I am left downstairs as I am not ready to retire to bed. I end up sleeping on the couch for a while before getting ready - it's become my habit lately, I don't think it makes Andrea very happy.
Just before I go upstairs I take my one and only real selfie for the day. Yes, this is my hair. I dreaded it again. I've missed them.
So that was my day :) All things considered life is good, kids are growing, and I work at a place that lets me have these days off with my family.
