I was witness to a group presentation about there not being enough student participation in campus activies presented by the CAB. Some solutions the group suggested were having events during the week and providing alcohol at the events. The group conveniently forgot that the mission of the Campus Activities Board is to provide alternative entertainment to drinking. Throughout the entire presentation I was just thinking the real reason kids don't participate is not because of lack of advertising or age appropriateness, but because most students only want to drink and anything other than that would cost them a precious drinking night. I party a fair bit myself but I am disappointed that more students haven't realized that drinking all the time gets old. The professor called it a Candyland that many college students live in. I can only agree. The group even suggested having more activities on Saturday afternoon "because most students don't do anything at that time." I didn't want to be a dick and point out that that wouldn't work well for the same reason, so the professor did it for me.
