More Questions for the McKaie-stertheomniadamAugust 25 2004, 23:18:32 UTC
Aiight Alex, you want Questions? Word.
How will each character's spells be introduced, and which spells do you foresee being the most dominant/commonly used?
Are classes as set in stone as in D&D or more of a loose title?
What is the feeling towards female in this universe? Are they like "Bah... Woman, know your place" or a lack of a dominant sexism universally?
Are there sword chucks/buckler swords/Mountain Dew in this unviverse?
Please tell me Am and Shin may compete over Alchemy (since it's one of Shin's focuses and Am is better at it)
Can Sui (I) make up some nifty spells to be used in conjuction with Sui's weaponry, specifically his daggers, since otherwise daggers are relatively useless in comparison to swords?
Uhhh... I say we cut the whole naked Sui creation and go for something like Sui in a dress. Less for personnal reasons, I generally think it would be easier if you just made Sui in a dress... he's like a little kid, he'd get equally upset and embarrassed. Then we don't have to draw nakey- Sui or have carefully placed Trees and Plants... Brother's a cleric man... and that's just not kosher (sorry... a term misused by my friend's Dad the other day.... that cracked me up).
I'ma write up about Sui at some point, since no one knows who he even is and he's one of the main characters. His girlfriend and Grandpa have gotten more mention in here.
I will tell you a couple things about Seta but he is a mystery in the series until later on and you only get glimpses into his past.
Seta is an Elf and is relatively young, his age being (SECRET). But he was at the monastary being trained by the Master and saw all the other characters come to the monatary and grow up.
You do find out at some point Seta isn't his real name but one given to him by his masters.
Seta was and is training in a secret elven sword technique which involves two swords, lighting fast speed, and a few other things that are going to be left a mystery for now. He currently trains and studies 18-20 hours in his sword forms, hand-to-hand combat, meditation, looking through the monestary library on history, warfare, politics and anything else that he feels would further educate himself and make himself better.
He has blue eyes, longish white/silver hair and does not wear the traditional training uniform but an old beaten up kimono of sorts and caries 2 blades.
I think that is all i will say for now unless I think of some else.
Very cold demenor, never really shows emotion except maybe amusment sometimes. Seems distant and to not care about anything but his goals which are not known and does not seem to have any care for selfpreservation and will risk his life without thought. . . This is from the viewpoint of the others around him. He has killed unlike some of the others and seems to have no problem with it.
You may wonder why after many many years at the monestary when he could have easily "gradutated" and gone off into the world. Well Seta has the view on life that he wants to master everything and know everything and will train diligently and without fail until he knows enough that he feels that the only way to learn more is to go and experience more of the world.
Seta looked into magic but did not look into it long enough to learn any spells figuring that he would master all the physical fighting arts and expanding his knowledge of the world before he would ever pick up studying magic seriously.
I might need to change some of this cuz I am not proof-reading but it should all be correct.
Re: More Questions for the McKaie-sterpoiuppxAugust 26 2004, 00:22:17 UTC
The introduction of spells will be handled much the same way the introduction of new techniques in any given style... off-screen, and only shown in the actual learning process if it is key to the character or important to the plot. As for dominant spells... hrmn. For Am, Sea Serpent (high pressure water blast in the shape of a serpent), Light Sparks (think Ray of Light meets Magic Missle), Dust Devils (you played King of Fighters yet? Joe Higashi's tornado move.), and eventually Flight and Ocean Soul (her biggest badda-boom, and VERY cool to watch.). Sui, other than the obvious Strength and Heal, Empower (think Bless but more focused; get hit with one of his daggers that have been Empowered and you WILL taste the rainbow of fruit pain) and Celestial Light (again, Ray of Light... but a bit more badass overall), then in the later seasons Cross Explosion (remember that little pillar move of his? Back with a vengence) and Wrath (And you shall KNOW I am the Cleric of the God of Strength... when I lay my vengence upon you. *sound of ass-whooping by extra-buffed form o' doom). Iori? Flame Burst, Firebolt, and Solar Eruption. Short range fire, mini-fireball, and SHINKUU... HADOKEN!
Ask Am about that one. In her youth, in the Dragonfly universe, her father's bodyguard taught her how to detect and deactivate traps, snipe with a crossbow, and defend/nail vitals with a dagger. Hey, came with the teritory. But in the end, a person is ultimately only as confined as their studies. But then, how many expert brain surgeon/black belt karate instructor/NASCAR drivers do you know? You can only stretch so far, ya dig?
Depends on who you're talking to, and where. Some places are matriarcal, some patriarcal, some generally neutral, and some like Nhali, The Midlands, or the Kingdom of the Eight Blades, depends on whose territory you're in. Much like our world, going from one country to another in Ramana can lend itself to a whole new rafter of beliefs, sexism included. That said, you would most want to hit the Vorn. VERY mysoginsitic.
No, yes, shouldn't be but I'll still find a way, damnit.
Shin is more of a tech head than a chem head. They can butt heads on certain designs, but they'd be more likely to work in tandem than against one another.
Go for it. But keep in mind daggers are 'relatively useless' in D&D; in the 'real world' getting a dagger in the gut usually has the same effect as getting a sword in the gut.
Hai, hai, no naked Sui... but the question is, do we keep the OTHER naked construct? ^_~
Go for it when you're ready, mon ami. I know you'll do the boy proud.
And so ya know, this WAS longer... before LJ spit it back in my face as being too long, then deleting it. -_-
How many naked constructs did you put in the arena?theomniadamAugust 26 2004, 01:00:02 UTC
I said pretty clearly the Sui creation, so if there was another naked construct in that fight... I think me AND Sui are glad we remained blissfully ignorant.
Re: More Questions for the McKaie-sterthunderheavyarmAugust 27 2004, 01:59:53 UTC
Are you gonna add in Runic magic for the few dwarfs that we did show? It would only make sense that Dwarfs would bind some spell into their weapons or armor through written word. Kinda like a contract with it. I'll keep you fully charged, if you keep me alive. Just throwing that out there.
Re: More Questions for the McKaie-sterpoiuppxAugust 27 2004, 02:54:17 UTC
Sounds like Shamanic empowerment; binding a willing spirit to a weapon, giving them tribute in some regard or completing a goal they no longer can in return for them binding themselves in fully to the weapon and using all its power to protect the Shaman. Tracing runes into something to bind it or set it in a certain way that is not associated with the spirits would be more the realm of Elemental or Sigil mages, each in their own unique way, of course. In that regard, I could see any Dwarven mages using Elemental with a sole focus on Earth, as that is what they are born into and what surrounds and protects them already. An Elemental mage's power is highest when in close proximity to what they focus on... a prime example of what THAT can lead to comes up in a later season, when Ameratsu essentially calls upon the energy of the sea itself, in full, to fuel a massive water spell that she normally couldn't do to such an extent on land.
Re: More Questions for the McKaie-sterthunderheavyarmAugust 27 2004, 09:02:28 UTC
Okay, first Sigil magic does use written words to activate a spell right? And their magic wouldn't just be earth element. Earth will probably be their strongest but they would also have some focus in the Fire element because of their crafting abilities. And are you saying if you're near your element your magic gets a mega boost in power? Make sense, but that can make Dwarf runesmiths pretty damn powerful when they're in their mountain strongholds. Pebble spell turns into Boulder...that could be interesting.
Re: More Questions for the McKaie-sterpoiuppxAugust 28 2004, 00:22:56 UTC
Nope; Sigil magic uses motions with the hands to summon up, shape, and then expend natural energy from within the mage. But you're right about the Fire aspect... any Dwarven crafting mage would need it.
Yes, being surrounded by a heavy degree of your element boosts it. However, this can lead to an isolationistic mentality in some Elemental mages... after all, you can't always have a mountain around you.
Re: More Questions for the McKaie-sterthunderheavyarmAugust 28 2004, 01:10:02 UTC
You can if you're a Dwarf. ^_^ Don't forget, a dwarf fights on the ground...which is made from Earth.
But anyway, the whole idea of a Rune is to place an enchantment on a Dwarven item. While Sigil magic is important to them during wartime when they need spell lobbers, the Rune is a single word. Example: A dwarf places the Rune of Stone on his armor. His armor is now as hard to penetrate as the mountain. On the other hand, he could place the same rune on his sword, making his sword hit with the weight of the mountain itself. What does this all translate into for game purposes, just to give you a better idea, a simple +1-+5 enhancement bonus. That is Runic magic.
