I guess I'm just putting this here so that everyone knows all about the Cors. So no excuse if you don't know their backstories Alex.
Cornell Lightree born 1190 A.C Born in the elven woods of the largest kingdom [sorry, you need to tell me where everything is Alex. Names change and so does everything else] His family has followed somewhat of a priviledged life. Plenty of food and nearly no worries except for the few probing attacks by people of the underdark. For centuries since it's founding, Cornell's family has always been a part of the Blue Crescent Moon, an elustrius Paladin organization, dedicated to making sure history moves by the will of their God and their will to make the world a livable place. Cornell, his Sister [very beautiful, was nearly mistaken for the Goddess of Beauty a few times] and his half-brother Garin. After a few years of training, they went on their seperate units and began fighting for truth, justice, and glory. Cornell's first look at misery came in the form of his half-brother. Leading a group of Paladins, in addition to Cornell, they investigated a chaotic focal point, probably left over from the last Chaos war. There, Garen went mad and attacked his fellow Paladins after entering a chamber where the chaos was gathering. Cornell BARELY made it out in one piece but lost memory of the entire incident. Eventually washing up on the capital shore, he wandered the streets until he came upon the Monastery of Knowledge and collapsed at it's steps. When he came to, he was in a warm bed, his armor removed and Surat tending to his wounds. He was taught the Sky Piercer technique by the Warrior teacher before he was picked up by another unit of BCM. Later he comes to meet Cornell.
Corpele [last name removed by him] Born 1290 A.C. Little is remembered of Corpele's live within the Dwarven lands. From as far back as he can remember, he was raised by humans that had always claimed his parents had left him at their door step and they took him in out of the kindness of their hearts. He eventually joined the military volunteering for missions leading deep into the mountains where most of the soldiers didn't want to go anyway and gladly let the Dwarf go in their place. For years, Corpele had been the target of much animosity of his fellow men-at-arms and one day found out why. Years ago, the kingdom went to war with the local Dwarf clan to gain the secrets of armor and weapon making. The dwarfs were caught off gaurd and slaughtered, with the very same weapons that they had given to the humans so they could defend themselves from the orcs at the time. Corpele's "Father" found the fledling dwarf and took him under his wing after realizing what he had done in attempt to clear his soul of all the crimes that he had done. Corpele learned of his past after running into a band of renegade Dwarfs, camped out in hiding. After learning of this, he left his country, his position, and the family that had taken him in and simply wandered, relying only on his sword. Months passed and Corpele eventually came upon an oasis in the desert. He spotted a lone elf taking a drink and wished to test his strength. The elf, was Cornell much older than when he went to the cursed island and much stronger. Corpele was beaten in two moves thanks to his lack of food and water. At that moment, Corpele tought he was dead, from what the humans said, Elves were cruel and didn't think twice to kill their oppponents, but he was spared and allowed to stand and eat some of his food. Corpele shocked, asked him why he didn't kill him, 'I don't kill men who haven't eaten, and clearly have no cause other than to fight. If you wish to fight me, do so when you are full, for a cause, you'll have to find one on your own.' Cornell told Corpele all about his family and the BCM. How they fought to free the oppressed and destroy those who take advantage of the innocent. On that day, Corpele has sworn to follow Cornell, one day hoping to steer the BCM towards his old human home and deal a vengeful blow to those that destroyed his clan.
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 25 2004, 22:27:23 UTC
'No excuse'... real smooth there, mon ami. -_-
All right, time for a run down plus some clarifying questions. Firstly, Cornell. Now, while he COULD hail from the forests of Cyna, Cereval, Archon, or Malus, there IS an actual Elven kingdom, Everglory. It's a MASSIVE expanse of forest in the heart of the Western continent. The region is home to the oldest trees, in fact, the oldest natural plant growth in the world of Ramana. Everglory is also commonly known (by Elves only) as The Cradle of Nature, for it is there it is at its purest. However, the 'underdark' is situated under the EASTERN continent. And that's the Underworld, mon ami. There is no one god for the Paladins... its effectively becoming a Holy Knight whose purpose to is to serve and honor all gods and protect the world as best they can. Hence the loophole that leads to Lorc's damnation... to his end, he thought he was fufilling that calling. There is no Goddess of Beauty, but there ARE female celestials, as well as Poison Ivy-esque Nymphs. On that note, the Goddess of Life IS considered to be among the most beautiful beings of them all, even among the Gods. The name is Suruat, and the style is Skycarver. The teacher was Vico Valiant, a former Drake-Rider.
And Corpele... well, we WILL need his last name eventually just for the records. And where was he raised? The 'Elves are going to eat your babies' attitude would best fit Cereval for predominantly human lands, or the Zin 'everyone else sucks' sort of attitude, but that is only found in the higher-up classes. That WOULD be apt for their cruel vindictive nature, but making an enemy of Zin can be risky... imagine pissing off all of China at once.
Okay, good info over-all about the duo... but they don't become involved until Season 2. What about more over-reaching questions, pertaining to the rest of the world? I'm sure there must be some you've got kicking around...
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 26 2004, 00:44:18 UTC
Okay. On the part of Cornell's sister, I can see her being mistaken for atleast Celestial, some of the older elves may call her the Goddess of Nature and some fan boys...well, I don't know if we'll even show here in the anime. He probably would hail from the dominate tree zone. But remember, there's more than one kind of elf in them thar woods. To clarify, a Paladin in Europe was usually a stead fast follower of the Gods. But a Tuetogen Knight! Now that's different. German knights only believing in their god and everyone else's is false. Cornell more or less borders on two gods. His racial god and the God of Justice or Good which ever one we decide on.
Corpele's name isn't lost or erased. I have one in mind, but it's basically a Shinobi complex. His clan is dead, he has no idea what his last name is, what his blood line is, etc. And I think it would have to be Zin, they're so damn hateful I can see them getting pissed over one late shipment of metals as an act of war against them. For better or worse, Corpele is from Zin, he hates all of it's people and wishes them all dead. He doesn't say it out loud in that country but he isn't the kindest person there. Which, from what you said, is a big thing. Just wanted to clarify those things so there's no confusion.
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 26 2004, 01:06:26 UTC
Hehh... behold the glory of flashbacks and art books. Expect his sis to get plenty of exposure in the series... how much the fan boys give her after the fact is up to them. ^_^
So, Everglory? Cyna? Malus? Archon? You'll need to clarify that bit...
That is perfectly true of Europe and Germany. Funny, I'm looking at the map RIGHT NOW... nope, no Europe or Germany listed on the Ramana world map. And remember, we're dealing with a world where there is a purpose directly to all things, often linking back to the hierarchy the gods made personally. Clerics are the specific servants of a single given god, while Paladins are the mortal militant arm of them all combined. Though I can understand PERSONALLY following the tenants of select gods... so long as he obeys the codes of chivalry and honors the gods, who is going to complain? But he has no 'racial' god... no one god is in charge of the Elves, or the Humans, or any other specific race. Well, except the Goddess of Darkness's children, but that's another matter all together. Best bets would be the God of Light, Goddess of Life, and God of Strength.
Worth posting Corpele's name here... fact is, one of the points of this is to make a living document, a historical file to look back on and say "That is how it is". And yeah, Zin would do that. Emperor is a total asshat and a half... but he has the loyalty of his people because he's convinced them they are the greatest country in the world, all thanks to him and his people. He's damn near deified by them... taking him on publically would be suicide for just about anyone within the Zin borders. Hell, even if someone was powerful enough to get to him and kill him, they'd never survive getting back out of the country. Hell of a deterant when you realize that...
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 26 2004, 01:15:05 UTC
Cornell would be from Everglory, I thought that I had made that pretty clear. You said that the elves were mostly from Everglory because it's the Cradle of Nature.
You wanna play the creation game then huh? Okay, let me see...nope, nothing here about Alex Mckaie creating the BCM. Guess that means I say what goes as far as that organization goes. See, I can be just as big of a dick too.
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 26 2004, 02:02:30 UTC
...okay, back the fark.com wagon up a bit here. First and foremost, I wasn't playing the 'creation game'. I was bringing up a valid point; we're not dealing with our world, our history, or our reference points. We're dealing with Ramana, Ramana's history, and the influencing factors there within. What is being built here is in fact a world. Everything in that world has to fit into it logically, in a logical order as it would develop through the actions of the gods, of mortals, and of the numerous events both positive and negative that have led to the world that surrounds Dragonfly. You don't have to look much further than my posts regarding lycans to see that. And the way the Dragonfly universe is built, Paladins have a specific important SET role. Mucking with that mucks with the whole universe. It's not called 'being a dick'. It's called storytelling.
That said, with all diplomacy aside, at what point did you decide to stand out as a problem? Everyone else here has more or less put their boys in my hands and trusted me to adapt and write for them to best fit the anime/manga. They know it won't be the same exact being they knew at the table, but so long as the line of debate is open to say 'I don't think that's what so-and-so would do' and they have their say, they're fine with that. What makes you feel you deserve special treatment in comparison? Do you somehow feel you're superior to the rest of us in this regard? Stop and think about this before you make an off-the-cusp comment like that, because if you want to make this a pissing match you're not going to have a lot of support in here, if any. This is a forum to HELP Dragonfly, not cripple it. And last I checked, you were complaining to me that helping out more is what you wanted to do. So, if you want to help, put aside the pomp and belly up to the bar. If you don't, walk away now. This project doesn't need more complications, and I would have expected you to respect that.
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 27 2004, 01:57:39 UTC
Hey, the creation game is what you looked like you were playing there. Besides a few post ago you did say you were taking from different cultures. Why not the one that freakin' is based nearly entirely for D&D. It just makes sense, hell, Norse Mythos should play a part in this. But that's for another discussion. On with more questions.
1. How are you going to handle Ace's introduction into the storyline? I know we already talked about that he came in on leave from the ship. But how exactly did Kir find out about Ace? He's been on that ship for a few years.
2. How old are you making Ace? Given when we started using him, he was 33 years old on paper. Are you gonna cut back the age or does that sound right for him. In my opinion he should be about 10 years younger that way it doesn't make it seem like he knows the trade but he's still learning.
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 27 2004, 02:29:48 UTC
In all truth, you appear to have negated the bulk of my earlier post and only answered the part you wanted to. To be honest, I feel slighted and insulted by this, as well as a lot of the attitude behind the original comment. I don't think it's fair that I more or less made it clear I was taking issue with what you wrote, for better or worse on a somewhat personal level, and you then chose to ignore that fact. The first comment I took issue with offended me because it was counter-productive and self centered in regards to Dragonfly. This omiting is more personal, and not what I expect of a friend. I would advise you NOT to ignore this the next time we talk, in here or otherwise, if you want to continue to call me your friend.
For the sake of assuming you do want to continue not only as my friend but as a contributor to this forum, I'll answer your questions.
1. The Dragonfly universe's version of planar ships require regular maintenance, and as such returned to dry-plane-dock at Ramana annually. Ace couldn't help but let stories of his exploits circulate, and so Kir- ever the opportunist -put the events in order that would snare Ace to her service. His actual intro is in Episode 12, following the Bandit King arc.
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 27 2004, 09:09:59 UTC
You feel slighted because I couldn't anwser all of the bulk of your LJ at 2 am in the morning? And I've had to work all week with no break in between except for the few hours I get at night? Maybe you should understand all the circumstances before you go burning witches. I really don't feel that I need to anwser everything and if this LJ is gonna spoil our friendship then our bonds are obviously not as strong as I thought they were. But this will be discussed outside of the LJ so get off my back until we have a chance to talk face to face in private.
Now is there anything else that I can ask...how are you setting up the BCM's role in the world? In the campaign we had it set up so that they had atleast one platoon size in each city so if they needed to they could easily and quickly over throw that government if they needed too. Is this the same or are they going to be their own maintained army in another country?
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 27 2004, 22:18:17 UTC
Just so everyone knows from this point on, S and I had a long talk tonight, and the whole debate is water under the bridge. We both appoligize for any discomfort this heated difference may have caused those of you who came here to help out, and in the spirit of continuing to make Dragonfly all it can be, and at the same time not alienate one another amidst the creation process, we'll both be pressing on best we can while keeping in mind that we both have to respect one another in our dialogues. I'm sure he'll agree in full, once he can get in here to reply.
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 27 2004, 22:51:32 UTC
In reference to the question here-in, can't keep them at the same level. It's a lot of things, really... firstly, with that degree of power, it doesn't only injure the position of the lead characters (who needs heroes like these when there's enough of them out there to handle damn near anything?) but also that of the Cors (what does a couple soldiers matter compared to an organization a million times their size?). Plus, with that kind of mission statement, if word of it ever leaked, the resulting blowback would be sickening in some countries. The entire country of Zin would explode on them, the Vorn-run country of D'Jac would declare outright war on them, most of the Nhali and The Midlands mini-empires would put aside their differences to defend against them... and if they acted to crush any of the above, they'd lose any support from countries such as Archon and Cereval. Even Malus would likely give up their neutral status, realizing their way of life was directly at risk. Of what profit is it to men sworn to the defense of the gods and their grandest creation, Ramana, to enter a war against every country within it?
In the Dragonfly universe, the Blue Crescent Moon is one of the oldest and most well-respected Paladin organizations, based out of Cereval where their headquarters lies in a region considered unaligned neutral territory. They did not enter the War of Dying Winds as soldiers, but rather, acted to provide protection to civilians and help try to prevent the war from spreading any faster than it already was (by the time Kir's incursion gave all sides a reason to stop, the entire Western Continent and select groups from the Eastern Continent were embroiled in the carnage. Imagine what would have occured had they not tried to contain it.). This one them great respect from ALL countries, even Zin and D'Jac, and even in many of the pseudo-isolated villages in The Midlands... their massive loses in the Kir Wars only added to this for the most part, as they now became martyrs for the world at large. Though now somewhat weakened and still rebuilding, what they lost in numbers they have gained a thousand times over in honor worldwide.
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 28 2004, 00:48:54 UTC
Yeah. For those of you reading this part, Alex and I have both agreed to respect each others thoughts, ideas, and anything else placed on this LJ aside from out right attacks on someone's character. We're going to press on and word our responses a little more carefully from now.
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 28 2004, 01:01:11 UTC
What exactly do you mean by maintenance? Do they simply repair their mast, deck, and bows? Or do they have their sails magically recharged so that they can continue plane jumping? Because most ships have enough supplies to do minor repairs or major repairs in a safe zone. Although, considering that the ship mostly makes trips to the Under realm to steal gems from Demons...I can see it taking a few fireball shots every now and then. Hell, the ship probably needs to be brought back quarter annually.
[The Orius sails into the port. It's mast hung over, charred in multiple places, large gaping holes in her sides and deck prevent the ship from sailing into deep waters for fear of sinking. The captain exits the ship and heads towards the waiting Shipwright] Captain: She needs a few repairs. Shipwright: Few repairs! This could take weeks...months to repair! What the hell did you do this time? Captain: Ace was a little slow this time around. We had a few unfriendlies board us while we jump. Damn buggers nearly killed half my crew. By the way, can I hire a few more men in the usual place? Shipwright: As always, good luck. Words gotten out about your little scheme. I doubt anyone here will join without a hefty pay. Which is how much it's gonna cost to fix this up. Captain: [hands him a large belt pouch, Gems and jewels poking through the opening] Make it two weeks. We've got places to go and things to steal. Shipwright: You're lucky those demons get dumber each time you go there. Captain: Nah, Ace just keeps getting better everytime. After all, I was the one that taught him everything he knows.
That's just my view on the episode the ship sails in.
Re: Cornell and CorpelepoiuppxAugust 28 2004, 01:44:26 UTC
Oh man, I needed that... good stuff, dude. And it really captures the kind of feel I intended. But the reason it is annually (on the whole) and not every couple months is these guys know they're playing a VERY dangerous game. You don't see a world in chaos with maddened demons clawing each others faces off and just say "Score! Let's go looting!". You have to do recon, and preferably from a long distance. These guys stand to make a lot of scratch, but if no one is left standing to spend it, doesn't do anyone any good.
The annual is indeed for recharges. Y'see, the crafts currently in use are actually mostly relics or partial relics from the first demon race that allied themselves directly with the Goddess of Darkness in the start of her campaign. They were big on making their way across the entire planar universe, not just from one spot to another. They wanted to be free, free of their conflicts and free of the Abyssal Planes as a whole. When She came in, they saw their big chance; if the war ended, who would care if they boggied off to somewhere else? But because they supported the Goddess of Darkness directly, even when the gods came down on her, they were punished for their crimes the best way the gods knew how; they locked them away in a place their best inventions could not pierce, leaving them locked away from all they desired forever... or until Freeman found out. ^_^ Anyhoo, this stuff that was left behind here and there is what is now used to travel the planes, and even the best of it needs serious maintenance in the downtime.
Re: Cornell and CorpelethunderheavyarmAugust 28 2004, 20:57:47 UTC
Thanks Alex. That settles the Cors and Ace's part. Let me ask about the BDS. I have notes here, if you ever get the chance, rent Psi-Ops. The soldiers that you fight are very much like the foot soldiers of the BDS. Mindless, fearless, and without any sense of pain while Darian controls them. One of the reasons why no one can stop them is because THEY JUST DON'T STOP COMING! How is the BDS handled in the universe? Do they also have their own area or do they rent themselves out as mercs to allied countries that haven't caught on to Darian's scheme?

His actual intro is in Episode 12, following the Bandit King arc.

[The Orius sails into the port. It's mast hung over, charred in multiple places, large gaping holes in her sides and deck prevent the ship from sailing into deep waters for fear of sinking. The captain exits the ship and heads towards the waiting Shipwright]
Captain: She needs a few repairs.

How is the BDS handled in the universe? Do they also have their own area or do they rent themselves out as mercs to allied countries that haven't caught on to Darian's scheme?
