So everyone knew that Donghae was weird. He always had the strangest things to say, the crazier ideas. Even his hobbies were a little off the wall. And those couple months when all he would talk about was aliens? Eventually everyone got used to it. So nobody was too surprised when he turned up at breakfast one morning, nose buried in a book about 'psychic powers' ("What, he knows how to read?" Heechul remarked.). Everyone was even less surprised that when Kibum happened to stop by the apartment that day, Donghae claimed to see a "blue light" surrounding him.
"No, Kibummie, really, it's there!"
Kibum, flipping through one of the magazines that had been laying on the coffee table in front of the couch he was sitting on, ignored his comment. "That's great, hyung. I'm reading."
Donghae pouted.
The next day, upon seeing Kibum, Donghae proclaimed his light to be purple. While this earned him groaning from some of the Super Junior members, and head shakes from the others, Kibum just quirked an eyebrow and asked, "Well, why has it changed?"
"I dunno!" Donghae chirped happily, reaching out and fingering the hem of Kibum's shirt. "But it matches your clothes great."
A couple weeks passed by before DongHae mentioned the light again. He had been sitting on the couch with Sungmin and Hankyung watching TV, when one of Kibum's CFs came on during a break. "Kibummie's yellow today." Donghae remarked in a light tone.
Sungmin leaned over to Hankyung and whispered, "Do you think he's just doing that for attention because nobody would get him that rock tumbler as an 'early birthday-I-really-want-it-pleasepleaseplease' gift? Of course no one was going to get him a rock tumbler, he'd choke to death."
"He's silly, Sungmin, not stupid." Hankyung said in his quiet voice. "I don't think Donghae would eat rocks."
Donghae just hummed happily to himself as their show came back.
Kibum was woken up in the middle of the night some two days later, by his cellphone ringing. Someone had changed his ringtone to something loud and obnoxious--probably Heechul--and he cursed them and whoever was calling him aloud once he caught sight of the clock. Sitting up, he flipped the phone open and demanded, "What?"
"Kibummie, you're green right now. Are you feeling alright?"
Kibum blinked, confused. "I...Donghae-hyung? It's three in the morning. And you can't even see me."
"I'm supposed to know these things!" Donghae laughed, sounding proud of himself. "It's because I love you, Kibummie."
"Uh huh. Well, I have to go." Click.
Donghae sulked for the next couple days, and no one was quite sure why. When asked, he would only shake his head and direct the conversation somewhere else. Even the presence of his dogs, home for the weekend from the trainer's, were barely able to cheer him up, though they did keep him busy. It wasn't until Kibum stopped by--on Shiwon's prompting--that a spark seemed to ignite in his eyes. And though he was still subdued, he managed to greet Kibum with a half-wave and a, "You're red today."
Kibum, having had enough of this nonsense, sighed dramatically. "Hyung, knock it off. Please? No one believes you see colors. Really."
"But I do, Kibummie." Donghae replied, sounding hurt. "You glow all sorts of pretty colors, right here." He tapped Kibum's chest, right above his heart. "I don't actually have to see them to know they're there." Before Kibum could open his mouth to refute that, Donghae continued, anticipating his reaction. "I just know these things. I told you once already."
"Told me what?"
"That I love you, silly."
Kibum pursed his lips. Leave it to Donghae, probably the strangest person Kibum knew, to come up with a love confession that was crazy as he was. A slow grin spread over his features, and Kibum started to laugh. Donghae joined him, though he wasn't quite sure what they were laughing at.
"Let's go, hyung." Kibum said, holding a hand out for DongHae to take. He did so and looked up at Kibum quizzically, a question in his eyes. Where?
He shrugged. "Where ever life wants to take us. Together."
