Things of note this past week:
-
CFUD NorCal meetup! We more northern NorCal-ers took an exciting road trip down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. We only got lost a few times, and luckily while it was still light (if there is anything lucky about getting lost). Probably should have picked up a map at one of those AAAs we passed on the way, however. But that would involve logic! And who needs logic when it takes three people to navigate and yet still not find their way -- oh, wait. The Aquarium was still lovely; I didn't upload all the photos I took there. The sunfish still exists, which is good. And then we ate at Bubba Gump for dinner. I thought it a bit pricey for the amount of pasta I got, but it was tasty - and more importantly, they could seat 7 people at one table. And do separate checks.
- Went to MacWorld! Verdict: I am not enough of a techie to even remotely appreciate what the hell they do there. Also, since Apple unveiled the new laptops and the new iPods last fall, there weren't any awesome new touchable things. They were promoting iLife '09, which I cannot use with my now-outdated OS Tiger. It was kind of funny to see all the iPhones laid out for people to play with. The first time I went to a MacWorld, there was only one prototype in a rotating glass case with a security guard nearby. And now it's so commonplace!
- Have mysteriously injured myself in the lumbar region. No, seriously, I have no goddamn clue what I did. One minute I was walking down the hall, and then suddenly PAIN!! I don't think it helped that I sat for a long car ride a couple days later. That resulted in massive leg cramps ranging from my hips to the soles of my feet. Then it got better, at least until I leaped out of a bunker yesterday. Now the pain is concentrated in my right hip?! I cannot easily bend over at the waist. A Motrin after lunch should cure that, though, briefly.
- Have also upgraded to Firefox 3. I am still slowly getting used to the dark gray browser, and the round Mac-y buttons that come with it. I am seriously loving the fact that ♥ now shows up as a heart and not a |. FINALLY. I CAN SEE THE SYMBOL.
- The most recent quilt is coming along pretty well. I'm a little worried at the amount of fraying going on while I stitch, but the quarter-inch seam should be okay. And this is definitely a lot of stitching. I just threw away an empty 150-yard spool of thread. It's going to look so pretty, though!! I'm really happy.
