Ha ha! I successfully traveled to and from Venice by myself. It was pretty uneventful, which is of course good. I didn't even get bugged by the people hawking knock-off handbags or whatever. Most everyone I met had some command of English, which I guess is to be expected in an area full of tour groups.
Venice is goooorgeous. Especially in the areas not packed by tourists. I liked walking around and randomly finding things; my most frequent thought was along the lines of "Where am I now?" But eh, it's not a big island. And there are a lot of plazas and canals so it's pretty easy to orient yourself. I had a great time! Really, I love Italy. And I'd definitely go back.
I took over 200 pictures, but here is a collection of about 40.
