The song is half way over, and Sammy was chomping at the bit to get to his solo. "C’mon, Thee, sing faster!" He thought to himself. Sammy loved to feel the strings under his blistered fingers, to hear the sounds of his guitar in the amps, the glimpses of his friends as they encouraged him to rip it up. "Ok, finger here, finger here… and… GO!"
Sammy wailed on the strings of his guitar, rocking the club to its core. He was caught up in the moment, concentrating too hard to care about the fans screaming for him, though it would be a hot topic amongst the band after the show. He didn’t care; for now, Sammy’s only concern was letting the music take him over.
He glanced over at Jason, who was caught up in the music too. Sammy grinned to himself and thought ,"He looks like he’s in orgasmic bliss!" Jason’s eyes were closed, his body moving in rhythm with the music blaring through the speakers. A sudden thought popped into Sammy’s head, and he called out to Jason, “Hey, don’t jizz on the fans!” and laughed. Jason snapped his eyes open, confused at first, then laughed at Sammy’s comment.
“I won’t jizz on the fans if you don’t!” Jason called back, teasing Sammy’s tendency to melt in with the music. Sammy just shook his head and slid his fingers down the strings one last time as the song came to a close. Jason wasn’t done, though, and issued an unspoken challenge using his bass and a taunting eyebrow raise in Sammy’s direction. Sammy laughed and accepted the challenge with a firm tug on the “E”.
Theon, with his mic, announced, “Uh- oh! It seems we have a competition here!”
Vivian and Juke both laughed and turned to the dueling guitarists. Christian played ref and said into his mic, “Alright, I want a clean fight, no hitting below the belt and I expect to need a lot of band-aids tonight! Clear?” and getting a grinning nod from Jason and Sammy, as well as a roaring cheer from the crowd, said, “Ready… Set…GO!”
The men immediately ripped into their respective strings. Jason played low, body- vibrating chords that resounded through the small club, rattling the windows and creating ripples in the stationary cups of liquid throughout the bar. Sammy opted for the scream of his guitar, wailing high and followed up with a complicated succession of notes that left every one of the patron’s ears screaming, and the fans themselves roaring their approvals. Jason countered with a cheeky “Bow-chica-wow-wow” and a sway of his hips. Sammy would have none of it, though, and pulled out his Jimi Hendrix imitations of “Purple Haze”. A few short seconds after Sammy started his play, Jason joined him and picked up so that the two were playing the song together. The rest of the guys threw their heads back, laughing at the two who couldn’t argue over anything, not even winning a duel.
Julian picked up the beat, Vivian fell in with Jason and Sammy, and Christian added in his own form of music to complete the sound. Theon kicked in with his best ‘60’s rocker voice, and the group played the song to its end.
The audience thought they’d gotten the bonus at that show. Truth was, it was the entire band who felt the luckiest- they had the best friends imaginable.
