I am watching "Paulie" with Cordelia (who has encountered a few species of conures, including Jenday and Sun, in her short lifetime so far.) I'm pretty sure we sold the blue-crown conure before she came in, but I'm not positive. Anyways, there was one line in the movie that made me think.
Paulie: There are things in life you put off, because you think you're gonna do them later. But the real thing Ivy taught me is you gotta live like there may not be a later.
How true this is. We always "wait for the right time" to do things...but that just takes time away from what you want to do in life. The longer we wait, the more time we waste, and we have so little time in life that it's too precious to waste.
So I'm making a vow...from now on...when I make plans they happen. If they don't, I make them or I move onto to something that will work. I'm not going to sit by and let my life fade away and die because I wanted to "wait for the right time" or was too unsure or scared of something. I'll give them the appropriate amount of time in my mind...because things don't happen overnight, but if things start going longer than I want them to...I'm going to move on to something new. No point wishing and waiting forever.
Of course, Paulie also made me feel badly about wing clipping...even though it is best for a domestic bird.
Corey and I decided on a bird species we want. Well, Corey fell for them, and I agree that they're wonderful. I don't know if Cordelia will feel the same way, but she has a little while yet until she has to face her new feathery brother.
Ta-da! A Red-Sided Eclectus parrot.
