FIFTYTHREE @ ARMENIAN STREET

We went for lunch at FiftyThree yesterday. The food was very prettily decorated and the appetizers and mains were good! My Amedei Chuao, banana and malt dessert was quite okay but I didn't like Rui's Apple & Rosemary. Overall, I think the food was quite good and definitely worth a try but it's a little pricey. We paid about $80 for three courses. One good thing is that they keep changing their menu and they'll serve seasonal things so you can always expect fresh new things. The ideas are really good though and the chef makes the food look so exciting.

Let me talk you through it.

Crackers that were made from Tapioca I think? And there was a dip (I can't remember what it was) with hazelnut shavings on the top.

Okay and this is us.

The bread - it came in a cute sack with beans at the bottom. The black one is the charcoal bread, cute! They sort of look like muffins. The butter had these crunchy things on top, I don't know what they are but I prefer normal plain butter. Rui liked it though.

Appetizer: Rui had the mud cab salad and I had the raw scallop one. They were both good! Mine had Earl Grey ice shavings in the center.

Main: Rui had the Red Gurnard fish and I had the Wagyu beef cheeks. Excellent mains. His fish was perfectly cooke and the lentils were really tasty. My beef cheeks were extremely well braised. Apparently it's stewed at a low temperature for over 40 hours. They gave me a fork and spoon to eat it (instead of a fork and knife), which shows how good the texture was.

Dessert: Rui had the Apple & Rosemary and I had the Amedei Chuao chocolate flower garden. I didn't like the desserts as much as the rest of the courses.

Tea & Coffee: Rui had a decaffe cappuccino and I had an Earl Grey & Lavender tea. I didn't take photos of it though cos it wasn't that special.

And to end off, they gave us these Apple (I think it was apple?) Gums. You put them on your tongue and they'll slowly melt away. The texture was really good.

Oh and the service there was pretty good too :)
