Day 16 - August 1st and 2nd - Favorite film character and Favourite Film Quote
I have been having a difficult time of choosing a favourite film character. There are many characters I like and they're all very different.
I can relate to Belle's love of books and desire for "adventure in the great wide somewhere." I like George McFly's cute dorkiness. And we all know I love Obi-Wan Kenobi. On the other side of the spectrum, I'm highly entertained by Emperor Palpatine and Jabba too. (Also, I've decided Dracula and Batman - of the animated series movies - don't count because it says 'film' character).
BUT since I skipped a few days, I've decided to amalgamate my favourite character and film quote...
Character: Lina Lamont!
Quote: "Then everybody was a dope!"
Lina is from Singin' in the Rain and she is just one highly entertaining character. She's stubborn, spiteful and mean to poor little Debbie Reynolds, but if I could be half as cool as Lina Lamont in real life, life would be that much more awesome...lol. Truly what makes her most entertaining is her voice and, of course, that's what makes the movie.
As for the quote - it makes no sense in just that one line and I often quote it out of context like that, which I'm sure confuses people. In context of the whole scene it makes more sense:
Lina Lamont: Gee, this wig weighs a ton! What dope'd wear a thing like this?
Rosco: Everybody used to wear them, Lina.
Lina Lamont: Well, then everybody was a dope.
You can choose to look for depth and philosophical reasons for liking the quote there - because it's true, just because everyone did something doesn't mean it wasn't a dumb thing! - but really the reason I love it is just because of the way she says it. Unfortunately, I can't find it on YouTube, so just go watch the movie!!
