It's because of stuff like this that I reject metaphors in general. On the other hand, "They were like two hummingbirds who has also never met" is pretty good, I like that one.

No, see, these are all similes (nearly). Similes are the white bread in the Imagery Bakery. Ubiquitous, pillowy.

Oh pshaw, I know exactly what they are, I just use "metaphor" to describe anything with a vehicle and a tenor.

Oh Jordan, you know I know you know the difference between a metaphor and a simile like the back of your hand. I'm just saying that these are particularly inept examples, sure, but I think there's some worth in the endeavor. Just because some snow is not good for snowballs does not mean we should outlaw snow!
