Alright! Who wants to help me with writing? You know you do. I know you guys are so nice and loveme so much that you'll help me with it even if the result of said help will be Smoltz/Glavine fic. Amirite? :D
Don't worry, it's nothing concerning them. I got all that covered. (And after reading about 50 billion articles about them I'm this close to AU-ing the whole fic and just having Fulton-County Stadium collapse on top of them and the Twins win by default. omgggg such freaking DOUCHEBAGS, they really do deserve each other.) ANYWAY! It's the actual writing that I need help with.
Yeah, so, I kinda FORGOT that nobody (and by nobody, I mean the readers. That sounds totally MEAN, I don't mean it like that, yous guys!) know who any of these guys, the 1991 Braves, ARE. You know? And being as it's written from 3rd-Limited POV, it's written familiarly. So it's not Steve Avery, or Terry Pendleton, or Greg Olson. It's Ave and TP and Olie. Yeah, but no knows this. It's almost like I'm writing original fic and expecting everyone to know who these people are without giving introduction. To know all the details that, while they don't seem big, can sort of throw you off if you aren't familiar with the setting, etc.
It's not even like when you read fic of teams you don't follow. You've at least HEARD of those guys. Maybe I'm underestimating my target audience (I don't know what exactly my target audience is though. Right now, it's anyone who'd be willing to actually read S/G fic).
I mean it's not a short fic where I can get away with just passing mention of things. There's three/four storylines that tie into one big one.
So, I guess my question is, how do you lay out information for the reader to pick up, about the characters and setting, without breaking POV, or going out of your way to address it? How do I not make the reader feel lost, but rather intrigued, even if they are completely unfamiliar with everything except the main characters?
I was gonna put this up in my GJ, but my GJ is pretty much just where I vomit up my own squeeing and talk to myself more than actually ask questions that I want answers too. so PLEASE give an opinion, if you have one, even if you think it's lame. I'm asking because I'm truly vexed.
And FTR I ACTUALLY HAVE STARTED THIS FIC. IT'S NOT A FALSE ALARM! Just ask
forbiddenromanc, she's seen actual snips of it.
AND! Comment on this post and i'll give you a band. Don't worry, I'll make it one you know and love. You put your ten favorite songs by that band on your lj and in reply to the comment, then challenge others to do the same.

cardinalfan06 gave me
1. Burned
Hand to my heart
I wanna the one who always learned
She says you're just like the sun
I get so burned when you were close to me
2. I Do
Cause when I'm in over my head
I hear the words you said
That someone out there's
Listening to the same song
Feeling the same way that I do
3. Sincerely, Me
And I miss you and the things you do
The time we had, the good and bad
The day we met that I can't forget
Signed, sincerely me
4. Get You In
Why can't I be your lover?
Can there be another?
And when I feel without I want to get you in.
5. Our Last Night
I remember waking up with you.
The days doing nothing
You meant more to me then
Than I think you ever knew.
6. A Lifetime
And that R.E.M song was playing in my mind
And three and a half minutes
Felt like a lifetime
7. Under You
Under you, I feel your blood flowing out slowly
Under you, let go completely feeling you take over me
You moved in slow degrees, a sudden memory
You're a Leonard Cohen song
8. Briefly
And now I'm close but not touching
And I'm cold but not freezing
And I'm only alive, only alive briefly
9. In the Blood
Who did you love before?
Who did they love before you?
But it's the way you move your hands
And it's the way you understand
10. King of New Orleans
So set him up, let him fall
Turn him over in your hands
God save the King of New Orleans
If anyone wants them, lemme know!
SHADY MAPLE FOR BREAKFAST TOMORROW WWOOO!
