Saffron had long been in the habit of holding her cards close to her chest, never letting it show just how strongly things affected her, keeping her emotions mostly to herself. Even after so long on the island, she wasn't much prone to gossip, nor to heart-to-heart discussions, even if they happened a little more often than they used to, and even ( Read more... )

"Hey, bao bei," he said warmly as he came in, peeling off his long great coat as soon as he was inside and ready to be settled. "You look like you're in a good mood."

"Jack!" Saffron enthused, dropping her rag as soon as she spotted him. Grinning from ear to ear, she went over to him and positively leaped into his arms. "I'm not in a good mood, honey, I'm in a fantastic mood."

He looked a little surprised, but only a little. Her good mood wasn't a terrible shock since she'd seemed to be glowing a little, but they'd been working and he'd been too busy to talk to her about why.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"Do you remember what I told you a while ago, that day when you found me in here? About how I thought there was someone worth opening myself up to?" She released her hold on Jack, so she could look up at him.

"I did it. I decided to take a chance," she explained. "I told him. I told him I love him and I told him the truth about me. And he told me he loves me too."

She paused, and it couldn't have been more obvious how smitten she was. "Jack, I've got a boyfriend."

His smile spread slowly and steadily until he was fairly beaming at her. Jack wrapped his arms around her and picked her up again and spun around once.

"That's great!" he said. "Helen, I'm so happy for you."

She gave a squeal of delight as Jack spun her, and she was pretty rutting sure her face muscles were going to get sore from all the smiling she was doing. "Thank you, honey," she replied. "It's been a long while since I was this happy." Really, Saffron didn't think she could remember the last time she was so happy. She was in love, and was loved equally in return.

"You deserve to be happy," Jack replied. "You really are due. So, tell me. All the details. Well, maybe not all."

"Well, it's Xander," Saffron said, since she hadn't actually mentioned who before, though given the way they'd been looking at each other the past couple of days Jack might have been able to guess. "I fought it for a while - you know how it goes. But I just didn't want to keep it inside anymore. So Sunday I asked him to meet me here about some repairs, and I just - told him."

She smiled at the memory, of that moment and of the entire day. "I told him about being a con artist, and all of that, and -" She was silent for a beat, her expression full of wonder even now thinking back on how it had gone. "I was expecting...I don't know, for him to feel betrayed, lied to. I was expecting he'd never want to speak to me again. But he wasn't even angry, Jack. It was like he couldn't even believe I actually loved him back."

Jack knew that feeling, that good feeling of confessing and still being accepted. Logan knew what he was, what he'd been, and he loved him anyway. He could only smile and nod.

"He's a good guy. I approve," he said, as if she needed his approval. That was laughable. But it was true, nonetheless. Jack liked Xander and knew he'd be good to Helen.

She might not have needed his approval, but she appreciated it nonetheless. "I'm glad," Saffron replied. "And he is, a really good guy. One of the best I've ever met."

She ducked her head on a soft laugh. "A really good guy and his really bad girl. What a pair we make."

"Hey, don't knock it," Jack chuckled. "You get someone good to balance out the bad and things are...good. Really good. And I can see how happy you are. For a con artist you have a terrible poker face."

She let out a mock offended huff and slapped Jack lightly in the chest with the back of one hand. "I have an excellent poker face, you houzi de pigu," she countered good-naturedly. "You just happen to know me better than anyone. Plus, I'm not exactly trying to hide this."

Jack laughed warmly and reached for her, holding her hand when he caught it. "No, you're not trying at all. And you shouldn't. Not when it comes to love."

"I don't want to," Saffron agreed, not fighting it in the least when she found her hand enclosed within Jack's. "Matter of fact, I've been having this strange urge to shout it from the rooftops."

"Go with that. If you're upon the roof I can see up your skirt," he teased.

That earned him a delighted peal of laughter, and Saffron leaned up to grin against Jack's lips for a moment before kissing him sweetly. "You are incorrigible, Captain Harkness, and I wouldn't have you any other way."
