WTF Popups!

Help to anyone computer savy who may read this!  How can I find out why I have so many popups and make them go away?  They are so annoying.  I have a popup blocker, and it is turned on.  I did have some kind of spyware, but supposedly my norton anti-virus made it go away.

I have internet explorer and windows xp. I ran some more scans for adware and removed some things and the popups seem to have gone away. But one program I used is still telling me I have adware and a virus, but I have to actually buy the program for it to remove anything. The other program I have keeps telling me it is removing some crazy file, but it keeps comming back.

In that case i think the program's just messing with you trying to get you to buy it. Is your computer still actually suffering? i.e. taking a long time to open programs, mysteriously closing them?

I think things are under control now. I ran my computer in safe mode and was able to clear out a few more things. I was able to delete a suspicious file that I had been trying to delete for a few days but couldn't. I got rid of the scan program that I had to pay for and just used a free windows one. The windows one kept telling me I had a file called fotomoto, which I googled and apparently it's a virus named after a Ukranian band. So far I haven't gotten any of those warnings since restarting in normal mode, and everything seems to be working fine.

Oh good. i didn't have a whole lot of help to give you since i'm really more of a mac girl and we don't get viruses :)
