[Background]
Movie plot [Personality]
At a glance, Charles is the mild-mannered, well-meaning professor, sometimes dressing in clothing more appropriately found in people double his age. He easily woos people to his side with his good looks and easy-going charm. He doesn’t anger easily and always seems to have advice to impart on others. He is a man of high society with his impeccable manners and large inheritance. Despite his relative youth he appears to have a maturity beyond his years as shown by the way he comes across as a mentor to the other mutants. However, his privileged and sheltered childhood and his ability to know everything about someone at a glance means that he trusts much too easily, taking people in after their first meeting.
It's all too easy to fear nothing when no one's able to hide anything from you. Added to the fact that he's never known physical hardship, Charles has an idealistic view of life. He honestly believes that his way is the right way and tends to press that on other people, something which tends to cross over to arrogance. As a mutant he believes himself to be better than other normal humans and that it is their responsibility to hold themselves to a higher moral standard because of it. Charles is a pacifist by nature although he can see when force is necessary and even then he tries to use it only sparingly. If Erik represents the path of getting things done with force, then Charles is his opposite, advocating patience and compassion. He believes that mutants should integrate themselves into normal human society and that given enough time, people will no longer see them as freaks or monsters.
Despite all his moral rules, Charles relies quite heavily on his telepathic abilities and uses them often. He uses it freely to try and score dates, move a conversation to a direction that is more favourable for him and to predict what the other person would like to hear from him. His boundaries on what he considers is or isn't an appropriate use of his powers is rather whimsical. Sometimes he'll dive right into their minds and take whatever information he wants and other times he'll be patient and stay out of their minds.
When he no longer has to keep up a serious, older professor image, he's rather playful. Charles' idea of having fun often involves alcohol and flirting with members of the opposite sex. He's not at all about sitting at home on a Friday night reading an obscure book on genetics. Although he has stopped going for a pint at the local pub ever since he was recruited by the CIA, he's in the process of growing out of those habits. Charles knows well the difference between work and play.
For all his pacifist and idealistic views, you’d be a fool to think that he was a pushover. He’ll listen to all the arguments against his position with an understanding expression, but in the end you’ll find he hasn’t budged at all. He does end up leading the X-Men in the future so it is to be expected that he has a strong will. He’s more than capable of standing his ground and his determination is only matched by a select few. But it is true that it would be easy to underestimate him. Very little about Charles on the surface suggests anything more than a rich kid who cruised through his life, nothing to hint that he is more than an academic who spends too much time in books and not enough in the real world.
Charles is a genuinely friendly guy. With the exception of when he’s trying to pick up women, he seems to try and create meaningful relationships with the people he talks to. He reaches out to as many people as he can or at the very least makes an attempt to stay in their good books. Even when all he is looking for is a one night stand, he’s still the perfect gentleman about it, always making an attempt at taking the considerations of the other person into account. His intentions are always good even if it doesn’t quite go the way he’d want it to. He does make mistakes, he’s still new to the whole thing, finishing his thesis on time and making sure Raven didn’t accidentally revert to her true form in public used to be his greatest worries and all of a sudden he’s being drafted by the CIA and is risking his life to help avert another war. It’s a lot to take in and it says a lot about the strength of his character that he’s doing as well as he is.
For all his good intentions, Charles occasionally displays a shocking lack of tact. This is likely due to the way that not everyone can read a person’s mind to see what they are really trying to say. He’s used to being able to understand exactly what someone is trying to tell him regardless of the choice of words, but the reverse isn’t true so he does make mistakes when attempting to convey his meaning in words. Like he subconsciously expects them to understand him the way he understands them. It’s important to note that he is incredibly well meaning. Even when he says something appalling, he honestly believes that what he is saying is the right thing. It’s a clear failing and one that eventually costs him the use of his legs.
[Abilities]
Comic abilities some of which still apply here Since he's much younger than the age he is shown in the comics his abilities would also be weaker. For example he presses his fingers against his temples a lot, but it's shown that it isn't strictly necessary. It's most likely that he uses it to help him focus.
His range would also be a lot smaller, let's say half of that mentioned when he puts his ability to its limits. A deleted scene from the movie also showed that his abilities hadn't developed far enough to be used on animals. He wouldn't be able to use his 'astral form' at all, has only one doctorate in genetics and differently from the comics, had no hand in building Cerebro.
Charles' fighting abilities are also limited only to what he may have picked up when he was training with the other mutants at his mansion and judging from the beach scene, is very little.
[Other important stuff]
He can accidentally pick up on intense emotion or thoughts and depending on the intensity can cause him headaches. For example, when he first felt Erik in the water, his pain and anger caused Charles mental pain.
I will be putting up a permissions post for the lighter aspects of his abilities and will make sure to plot it out with the other person first before doing any serious mind tricks.

[First Person]
Using dreams as a source of energy is such a fascinating concept. It doesn’t seem to fit at all into the law of conservation of energy, where energy is never created or destroyed, merely changed from one form to another.
But here, [He leans forward slightly making his excitement clear.] we’re creating something out of nothing. The neurons firing in our brain as we sleep are somehow generating something that can be used as a substitute for electricity! What’s more, we know that this is an alternate world and that one day we’ll wake up and go on with our lives as we did before. Yet we still have all the characteristics of a conscious, living person. We still need to breathe, eat, drink and rest. All of our senses remain intact.
Our dreams are also supposed to be isolated, untouched realms by others. But, I know that every single person here is their own person and not a figment of my subconscious. So what does this all mean? I don’t know yet, but I hope you’ll agree with me when I say that this is something we should look into.
[Third Person]
Somarium was a lot smaller than London with far less inhabitants, it appeared to have more in common in size to where his Westchester mansion was. From there Charles always found himself thinking about the others back in the waking world. Alex, Hank, Sean-- Erik and Raven. He did miss them all dearly.
He shook his head and resumed walking. This was a marvellous opportunity to experience something beyond his world. He should be grabbing this opportunity with both hands because he knew that this was only temporary. He should enjoy it while he could and maybe, just maybe, one of them may join him here one day.
Eventually he reached Lake Meridian. Charles had heard about a lake monster that supposedly dwelled there and he wished to see it for himself. His excitement was more than enough to temporarily pull him out of thoughts of home. His haste caused him to slip more than once as he scrambled for the river bank. He didn't let that deter him and continued on, his clothes quickly becoming caked with mud. Charles wasn't afraid, none of the stories he'd heard had ever hinted that the monster could be dangerous. Besides, there was also supposed to be another person who lived out here.
He wondered if it was sentient, there was nothing on Earth that he could compare it to, unless one believed in the Loch Ness monster. The quickest way to find out was luckily also the easiest. Charles placed two fingers against his temple and focused, silently reaching out to any lifeforms out there. He wasn't even sure if it was sentient, but he could at least use his powers to see if there was life, even if he couldn't touch them.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?]
Yuli wants everyone to join Somarium. I just picked a muse at random to help her dream come true. More seriously, I've heard nice things about the game and thought it would be a good fit for Charles.
[Which rule was your favorite and why?]
Allowing animal and robot characters to be apped. Doing otherwise would be discriminating against non-humanoid characters and some of those characters have done great things in their respective canons, not to mention that they would have fleshed out personalities. They shouldn’t be deprived of the chance to be apped.
[Where did you hear about Somarium?]
Friends.
[Any questions?]
Would it be okay for him on arrival to scan random people's minds to learn about Somarium and how to use his Dreamberry? He'd be looking for information on the place only and not anything else.
Also would it be feasible for him to subconsciously drag in pieces of other people's thoughts into the dreams that get broadcasted? So that his dream could be influenced by other people. Entirely with permission from the other person of course. I just figure it would be more difficult for him to control his telepathy when he's unconscious.
