Let the Right One In

I finally saw this twisted little movie, and I liked it.

It's always validating when a film reviewer mirrors one's own opinions.

I was reminded of nothing so much as a very young Jaye Davidson by certain aspects of Lina Leandersson's performance (facial expressions, etc.), and now that I've seen it and I'm reading a few reviews about it to compare my impressions, sure enough, James Berardinelli mentions The Crying Game in his review of this film. (I need to watch TCG again. It's been too long.)

I've never seen Natural Born Killers, but I expect it at least shares the commonality that, ah, like attracts like.

I don't want to say too much because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone who hasn't seen it, but ...

  • It's creepy.
  • It's darkly humorous at times.
  • One wonders how many times she's done this.

I'd really like to know Eli's origin story.

After watching it, I felt the sort of smirk on my face that I felt at the end of The Usual Suspects. In an alternate universe, made in America about 15 years ago, I could see Jake Gyllenhaal cast as the alienated boy. It's that sort of story.
