I have been meaning to restart using my xanga again for a while but was never motivated enough. Well, je reviens! I adore RENT.
I saw RENT last night. I cannot believe that my mom didn't like it! ...Actually, yes, I can. Not one of my better ideas, I guess. Kelly and I had a blast, though.
The cast was kind of wonky. Roger was freakishly tall. Really, freakishly tall. It was scary. He'd have been kinda cute, but he couldn't act. His singing was ok, I suppose, but nothing like Adam Pascal. I adore that man. Brilliant fucker, he is.
The dude that played Mark was a better performer than Roger, but not much of a singer. But he was very spiffy. I liked him. I liked his costume, too. It was stripy.
Maureen was hysterical. She had a star patch on the crotch of her jeans, which she displayed at every oppertunity. And she mooed very well. I was highly entertained. The vending booth was selling a cow, which rather cracked me up. Heh. MOOOOOOOOO!! It's a little hard to see Inida Menzel in that role, especially after seeing her in Wicked as Elphaba, but she's very talented. She pulls it off.
Joanne was good. She sang and acted well and the interaction with Maureen and Mark was well done. There was just this one line that I wish she had done differently. But it was good, anyway.
Collins had a good voice, but he fucked up on I'll Cover You; Reprise, which rather sucks, as that is one of my favorite songs in the show. I just about cried the first time I heard it. And he was so sweet with Angel! They were so purdy together! Made me happy. Very very happy. You know, even when the lights weren't on them (when someone was singing, the lights were up on them and down on the rest of the company), he was like stroking his shoulder or rubbing his back or something. It was really sweet. ^__^
Angel I can only describe as a bunny rabbit on steriod. He was everywhere all once! It was fucking inconceivable. How the fuck is it possible that anyone can have so much energy?! And she was good, too. She did squeak once or twice, but that's rather unavoidable when boys go into their head voice. My sister said that she makes a very lovely drag queen, and I quite agree.
Mimi was, surprisingly, better than the original cast. Of course, I have never really thought much of the one from the original cast Mimi, because she kinda sings through her nose a little, and since Adam Pascal's voice is gravelly, they sound a little wonky together. She totally nailed Out Tonight and I Should Tell You. It was lovely. She was rather pretty, too.
The set was so cool looking! I must admit that a couple of times, I thought that the tables were gonna collapse, as they were all dancing on them and laying on them and jumping up and down and all but attacking them with an axe. But they didn't. Which is good.
All in all, I was very very happy. I came home in a state of euphoria. And am now listening to my cd. With Adam Pascal. >squeeee< Olga's going to see it this Sunday. And I am going to spend the rest of today with my Marina.
I need to burn the cds for Kelly and Marina. Spread the Adam Pascal love. ^__^
For anyone interested, here is the address to a good version of the libretto.
