Hello again everybody.. I'm back on the board. And tonight I'm not here to complain. So that's a good thing.
What an odd, interesting and amazing night this saturday night turned out to be. It started off with me and Grubbie getting the bus from Nicole's. I got off downtown in hopes of running into jason who was at java when I called his house. No luck, no one was there. I called him and he already had plans. This means I have to go to the ship alone. Well, that was cool I had no problems there. I started walknig up at 9:30 thinking I'd have a drink and talk to a few familiar faces.
On my way up water street 2 guys stop me and asked if there's anything to do. They were both from the US and had just gotten in at 6:00. I tald them about Steve Poltz playing at the ship, so they come along. One of the guys went back to his hotel room though, and the other stayed, bought me a beer and watched the show with me. When Steve Poltz finished his amazingly great, hilarious, folk set the guy from the States (Sly) wanted to try somewhere else, so I go along with him. It was 12:00
We end up going to Merlin's because he had met a girl who worked there, but that cost $20, so instead he decided Peddler's would be a good option. He paid my cover and we went in.
It wasn't really my scene at all. There were a load of people dancing to Bryan Adam's "Summer of 69". There was vomit on the floor. Hardly any familiar faces... But after a while this guy started talking to a couple of girls. As it turns out, I knew them. I got in a long conversation with one of them, while the other's all went dancing, it was alright. During the talk I saw 2 girls I used to always see at MUN go past me, and giggle. One of them was a girl with whom I have shared glances with since MUN began.
The girl I was talking to (Laura) ended up going with ther friends and not coming back. Sly was talking to a few people I had no interest to meet. So for a good hour I stood up awkwardly (would you believe) watching everybody and everything, and helping up the poor fuckers who kept falling in front of me(the vomit was quite slippery), By this time I'm really considering calling my brother (who said I could call and wake him at any time to pick me up).
Instead I waited around a little longer, and the girl with whom I'd exchanged looks and had giggled at me tonight came over and asked me to dance. I awkwardly refused/accepted. We danced and danced and then danced some more. It was a lot of garbage music, but they did play No Rain which hit the spot nicely. I must've been on my goddamn feet a good hour and a half. Then the lights came on and they put on a few slow songs.. on of which is Wish You Were Here. So that was cool too. The night ended they went out and got pizza, I called my brother and we dropped two of them home. Heather(girl i danced with) gave me her number and asked me to call her.
This is great. For an evening that started out friendless and bleak and that was expected to end at 11 or 12, I instead arrive home at 4:30 with heather's phone number and a new friend from Pennsylvania. And there are absolutely no complaints. Well maybe there will be from you guys about the length of this goddamn post.
g'night.
