from montréal

i woke up and decided i wanted to leave guelph. go to montreal. a fortune from a cookie i had found read "you will travel to distant lands for business purposes" or something like that. i was just in that mood too. so i started walking. left a note for louise and shawn. didn`t really know where i had to go to get on the east highway. one man told me one thing, another told me another. i ended up walking up some random road for highway 7, in 30 degree heat. with a big backback.. anyways i go a good distance and start talking to people. they start telling me i`m going the wrong way. so i turn. now i`m going towards the 401 which is a good 10 miles away.. i`ll walk it i told myself. with my thumb out i started. crazy enough some guys picked me up after a little over an hour and drove me straight to the 401. perfect. i was on the 401 for about half an hour, and a guy stopped and drove me as far as scarborough. the crazy 401. there are like 12 lanes or something. i walk it for a couple of hours.. it`s madness. 34 degree heat. big backpack. crazy drivers. cars everywhere. awful smells. nowhere else to go but walk the highway. some cop kicks me off and warns me i`ll be arrested if i get caught on the 401 again. she tells me to go to the onramp. i stand there. never expecting to get picked up, but lost as to what else to do. just sit and hitch. this guy picks me up in about 15 mintues. he`s awesome. drives me to the train station. i get on the go train, without a ticket. nobody bothers me over it.
i met this wonderful gorgeous girl there. we got to talking. never got her name, but it was beautiful. at one point she was telling me i`m very easy to fall in love with. i kinda miss her.
in oshawa i got picked up after about half an hour of hitching on the on ramp. some cocky friendly guy picked me up, bragged about his life for a while and dropped me off. i`ve been picked up by this type before. really friendly wonderful guys. do`nt give a shit about what you have to say, but happily rant on about their motorcycles and boats forever.. i like them. good rides. he took me as far as port hope, i think. then some lady picked me up and drove me one town to cobourg.
my next ride was cool. he stopped, picked me up with a flat tire. drove me about 2 km, gave me a bunch of roaches, some pot and a ball of hash. told me to read his plate, but forget the name. (it read tadman). what a wonderful man. then i had a good long ride from some man who worked with gmc. my last ride was an hour and 15 later. it was 8:30. i was gonna soon call it a night, and stilll wasn`t sure if i was headed to montreal or ottawa when this vietnamese man pickled me up and otld me he was going to montreal. i couldn`t say no. we didn`t talk much and it was a 4 hour drive, but it was good.
i landed in montreal 12:30 am, couldn`t find the gazebo i was looking for. mixed up the names of the streets and ended walking for several hours. again, crazy hot and big heavy backpack. i walked to the top of the mountain and slept near some racoons. woke up early, found the gazebo after about an hour and slept again. after smoking some pot with some morroccan guy. he was cool too. wandred the downtown for most of the day and slept at the gazebo. i had managed to run into 4 people i`d met in victoria and met a couple besides. slept at the gazebo, in the thunder and lightning.
yesterday was a blast. ami (a guy i`d met here in october) smoked a couple of wake and bake sessions at the gazebo, then i wanderd the town. after lunch i met this gorgeous girl.. she was stunning. she wore a long skirt and a small white top. her hair was done up in a big white napkin thing. just gorgeous. but crazy. we hung out all afternoon. she did seem quite schizophrenic, or crazy of some sort. but we got along well enough. her awkwardness was wonderful. i lost her at one point though. i`m not sure if her name was laura or sara or something else altogether. she didn`t really keep her story straight. i was supposed to go back and help her clean up her place. maybe i`ll see her today.
last night i got pretty wet in the gazebo. another thunder and lightning storm, and this time not as nice. some of my stuff i soaked. i`ll figure it out. ami just bought me a morning beer at my new favourite bar. it`s like the peter easton pub times 10. they cash everyone`s welfare checques. and today`s welfare day, a bit crazy around here.
well that`s more story for now.`montreal is awesome. i think i`mm gonna go to the park in a couple of hours and see what happens. for now i`m gonna wander the downtown.
g`night
