Torchwood: Children of Earth, Day Three

Jul 09, 2009 00:33

So yes. I finally managed to write a reaction post. Damn you, Americans and non-GMT people for getting on the internets and being amusing when it's 3am my time and I'm asleep. So apologies in advance if I don't reply to your comments till tomorrow morning, my time. On the other hand, I might just go with completely altering my circadian rhythms. ( Read more... )

Motherly duties, they come first. :D In which case, I will probably reply to your comments with incoherent morning squee.

I SAY TO YOU ONLY ONE THING: IANTO'S "ESSENTIALS", LOLORIFFIC.

You will understand later why I could not help myself. :D

I liked Ianto's emo here a lot better than in Dead Line, I think because it was questions. He wasn't just dwelling on it, he was getting the answers he needed, and then he accepted them and decided to just take control over what he could control. It's quite a funny progression in their relationship how he deals with it. He seemed pretty ok around the end of season two, but now it's getting out - it's not just an unsecret secret in Torchwood, with everyone knowing but not really talking about it. His sister knows, Clem knows, Rupesh knew, everyone can see that they're a couple and he's not quite sure how to handle it. But we can see in D3 that he's feeling a lot better about it than in D1. Possibly, you know, because the world is ending, and like he says, that's normal for Torchwood. It's a situation that's familiar to him, and Jack came back to him, and even though his immortality is a truly awful thing, he can handle it.

The contacts made me lol so hard. I'm writing contact lens porn. :D

Hmm, schmeh. I do see what you mean. And I'm very much with you on Ianto having to face up to the world-outside-Torchwood knowing about him and Jack, and what that/means implies. The world just kind of rolls off Jack's back, you can kind of believe he'd never face discrimination/traditional "coming out", queer issues because he's 51st century and all that. But also there's something flagrantly anachronistic about him, he *barrels* through the universe, not quite living in the same world as the rest of us ( ... )

Yeah, definitely. It's the same way that Asylum and Adrift really ought to have happened long before they did. The immortality issue probably came up between them sometime in season two, maybe after Meat... I feel like after scraping away with his life solely because the gun had run out of bullets Ianto might have had the whole subject on his mind, a bit, and while Jack was upset about Gwen, there still would have been time for them to talk after that. I'm glad we get to see how it's affecting Ianto, just like I'm glad to see what they do for the rift victims and information about asylum policies for aliens stuck there, it's just a problem in the timeline.

Yeah, I agree with this.

But-- gah, I want to expect better of you, Torchwood. I can take it when it comes to plot/politics/loopholes such as the issues you rightly mention, but when it messes with character development it becomes more difficult to handwave and accept, I think.

Oh jesus, Jack. You glorious, dysfunctional, fucked-up, delicious tool. Yes, RTD ran that reveal up the tallest flagpole he could find, and it was twiggable even without all of Clem's dithering ( ... )

Re: Ianto's speech. Yeaaaah, am not best pleased with it. Only really rescued by INNUENDOES and their performances, I think. Will have to rewatch it to really come to a conclusion, but I felt vaguely unsettled about it.

Ahahahaha-- you're so right. Ianto, you are stealing Owen's moves for sexytimes. Owen would roll his eyes. Then approve!

I too am having a growing love for Bridget. She is cool and starched and pragmatic,. And she tries to tell Frobisher that he's just a pawn in the elevator, even though he doesn't want to believe it. She's wonderful. And Lois is growing on me too-- I was very meh-y about her in Day One.

Torchwood is coming up with best boyfriends/husbands in spades-- ianto and Rhys, everyone should have one of each of them!

Oh, man. Jack and his midlife crisis mobile!

It's pretty much just all the Welshmen this season I think. Ianto, Rhys, Johnny's getting pretty awesome, Andy's always precious.

-Jack running off. For fuck's sake, Jack. It's very in-character, and just an absolutely irritating trait. Jack, you are, quite often, a massive twat.

yeah, i liked gwen's "bloddy jack, you should have stopped him"

i got a mental image of ianto tackling jack to the ground

Haha, of all of them, he's the only one that comes close. Think KKBB-- Jack fucks off, the rest of them all stand around looking peeved but Ianto's already running in the opposite direction to hail a taxi.

There's no stopping Jack, they both know it. I just love the little moments between Ianto and Gwen when they're exasperated with him. Like Ianto snickering when Jack asks Gwen to get something in 'Day One' and she snaps, "Get it yourself. You have two hands" or something to that effect. EEE, STICK TOGETHER TEAM WALES!
