Torchwood Recs

For a while, I've been thinking that it's a lot easier to explain the Torchwood I have in my head through a selection of fic that forms my personal canon, rather than attempting to actually explain it in words. And so here it is. A selection of stories that resonated with me, and stayed with me (to the point that I could actually remember either ( Read more... )

Wish more people would do this. I did a fanon-canon meme about a week ago a bit along these lines, but not that many people picked it up. I'm always talking to other stories when I write and like to hear about that from other ficcers, too ( ... )

Yeah, I second the Polarity remix story. I think that is my canon Suzie joins the team.

HIJACK TO NEIFILE: I am so sorry I failed your meme. I tried. I really did. But I think I was set off by the "canon issue" theme of it, because I don't have any real issues in that manner. Hrm.

(re-hijacks)

NOT EVERYBODY has to be a canon geek, for crissakes. At least some of us have to write OCs and crochet fictional afghans and have Ianto doppelgängers decal-bombing the Hub. Or fandom would rapidly become unbearable.

But for those of us less able to imagine six impossible things before breakfast, geekery will have to suffice. :)

I DECALED MY BATHROOM LAST NIGHT.

No wait, I dreamed that I decaled my bathroom. It was the TORCHWOOD BATHROOM FOR GREAT JUSTICE.

Thank you so much for the recs, haven't run across them before so I'm looking forward to reading them. And I'm gla that sarcasticchick's fic worked for you-- I was completely blown away by how subtle and shifting it was. Quite honestly-- every single one of the stories I've recced there just absolutely blew my mind, so you really don't have to thank me for the shout-out, thank you for writing a story that I can use as shorthand for all the weird and semi-coherent thoughts in my head. :D

Heh, fandom in general's a funny place. isn't it? I'm so glad to find fun and interesting and thoughtful people writing Torchwood fic-- they're always around, but it's great to actually manage to find them. :D

Oh, AND: We are all having this large and over-arcing conversation aren't we? In the same way that the show is a conversation between creators and consumers, fandom writing is a kinky three-way between show, ficcers and fic. Fanon/Canon is one of the most interesting moments of intersection between the two-- will certainly scour your journal for this meme.

Here's the linky, if it should take your fancy:

More people commented than ganked, but they're interesting points.

Three-way conversations indeed!
