Catching up with
multiverse5000 fic.
If you do one thing with your day, go and read
vanitashaze's entry,
The Waste Lands. It's River/Doctor, melding the Who-niverse with Stargate: Atlantis. And it doesn't just pay lip-service to the canon of either-- the myths and facts of each of these universes collide and slide against each other, explaining each other in a way that seems-- completely obvious, once
vanitashaze has pointed it out. Just wonderful time-travelling, history-bending fic with great characterisation of River and the Doctor, and their relationship, and a wonderful look at the Ancients, their experiments, their ideas and responsibilities. It's sad and sly and smart, and you should all read it, if you even dabble in either canon/fandom.

I've been reading lots of fic, so it's only fair I rec you all some. Right.
I loved
imperfectcircle's
Free Beer, and you will too. Why is this, you ask? Because it is Barney/Captain Jack. Yes, How I Met Your Mother/Torchwood crossover. It reads like a hilarious series of scenes from an episode of HIMYM, has great voices for all the characters, and is frankly, just the most legendary thing ever. I mean, really, Barney/Jack, do I need to say anything else to convince you?
rivier writes Torchwood that I want to be canon. One of my faves is
Behind the Door, which is a missing scene from 2x06 "Reset", with Martha's first impressions of the tourist office and Ianto. I have to admit, I have an enormous, gaping weakness for Ianto+Martha=BFFs fic, and this one just makes me ridiculously, stupidly happy. Martha's voice is clever, witty and marvellous, I dare you not to fall in love this this take on her. And if your Ianto+Martha needs haven't been fulfilled by that, then there's
Q.E.D by
smokeringhalos, which presumes that Ianto and Martha stay friends after "Reset", and is a complex, subtle little phone conversation of theirs, with background Jack/Ianto.

rheanna27 is already a Star Trek reboot classic, and deservedly so. It charts the friendship of the very different room-mates Uhura and Gaila, with some Spock/Uhura in the background, but the focus very much on the relationship between these two. It's funny and clever, touching on cultural differences and difficulties, presenting both of these women as interesting, vibrant, wonderful, silly. Only to be expected from
rheanna27, as I loved her SGA fic as well.
Definitely lots more good fic I've been reading that I ought to rec, that will probably come later. But for now, go and give these fics some love.
