Identifying with is...
Have you felt like a song or album was written just to express the experiences you've had? I think that's a very common feeling and two people with completely different emotions and experiences can recognise themselves in the same song.
I listen to Bruce Springsteen's album 'Born in the USA' and perfectly identify a particular moment in my life in so many of the songs, and in the emotions expressed in this album. 'Bobby Jean' is probably one of my favourite Springsteen songs for its beauty and emotion, but also because I was Bobby Jean (my observation but also someone else's). That's also what makes it one of the hardest songs on the album for me to listen to.
But despite the difficulties that you can experience in listening to a song or record that you identify with so clearly, the strength that that can give you is also the reason why you keep returning to it....
