Interested in taking in some spoken word poetry? Feel up to being fed some def lines? How about wanting to take in some hip hop without the misogyny or some poetry with extra oomph?

Sunday, May 29th, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., at least 12 artists will be performing poetry at the Lamplighter Roasting Company (http://www.richmondcoffee.net/). All members of Richmond's adult team, SlamRichmond, and the youth team, Slam Dominion, will be performing as well as other area poets. Yes, there will be a serious show at 116 South Addison Street (Richmond, VA 23220). There is no entrance fee, cover charge or minimum purchase but if you want to lay a few dollars down it will be for a good cause.

This particular fundraiser is to raise money to send the youth team, Slam Dominion, to the "Brave New Voices" (http://www.bravenewvoices.org/) National Youth Competition in San Francisco, California.

SlamRichmond's mission is not just to perform in competitions it is to increase literacy in children and adults, for the rich and the poor, for students in school and students of life. To promote voices in artistry. To spread poetry, move hearts, and inspire minds.

The event SlamRichmond, goes down every Saturday night, free of charge, at "The Shop" located on the perimeter of the ArtSpace gallery at 0 4th Street, off of Hull Street. Writing workshops at 5 p.m. followed by open mic at 8:30 p.m. followed by a feature poet of either local or national regard. Sometimes, when the audience is down for it, there will even be a slam.

Support the arts. Support the youth. Support the city of Richmond.
