Counterfeit Allure

The kind of girl everyone thinks they know

Her thoughts reek of desperation

And she has look in her eye that screams deception

But there’s that seductive smile scrawled across her face

Her counterfeit allure

Amid all of the snap judgments

There lies a real girl

Cocky, self assurance that disguises every insecurity

A bat of her lashes, and she’s got you hooked

Reeling people along is what she thrives for

It’s the only way she feels in control

A broken heart and a shattered soul

Everyone thinks they know, but they can never see

The hollow, empty feeling she knows so well

The undetectable tears she cries at night

The concealed scars on her frail figure

She’s the most flawed perfection

A tarnished piece of art

Just a cheap cliché in the world of the overused

Trying too hard to be anyone’s everything

Only left to be everyone’s nothing

Torn between the faux expectations of everything right

Longing to spread her wings

Shed old skin, and expose true colors

Prove every judgment wrong

A life of lies

In too deep to change

The only escape is to forget

Left with the unnerving guilt stricken sense of

Regret.
