Cherry Doll

Cherry doll

Scarlet red lips

Black lined eyes

Loose ribbon hanging off curly Pigtails

Little girl playing with make-up

Growing up too fast in a much too developed world

Caught up in everything she’s not

Everything she longs to be

Beautiful

Glamorous

Timeless

Cherry doll wants to dance under the moonlight

In a sequined gown

Having the man of her dreams spin her on every correct count

She wants to wake up

Older

Wiser

Experienced

Have her own children look up to her

Take her own little lady shopping

Tie pink bows in her hair

Protect her from the cruel world she couldn’t escape

Scoop her into her adult arms and never let her go

Cherry doll is all used up

Much too worn out

Stares in the mirror

A tired reflection gazes back at her

Save yourself it says

This world is much too dangerous

For a cherry doll such as yourself

Escape this overrated reality

With one swift swipe of a cotton ball

Those scarlet lips are left a natural pink

The dark lined eyes are brightened

Reties the ribbon on her pigtails

Cherry doll enjoy your youth

Wear clear lipgloss and body glitter

Dance under the stars and shimmer

Stay young

Beautiful

Free

Naïve

Let me hold you in my arms

Gather your sweet adolescent thoughts

Grasp your last strand of childhood

Oh I’ll clutch it with my life

This world isn’t ready for such a beautiful soul such as yours

Sweet cherry doll of mine
