Ok, it's official and my research has begun. Every time I sit down to LJ I'll be taking notes. And I'll be reading entries and profiles and looking for things interesting for my paper. Let me know what you think about this community and online journals in general. I need as much raw material as possible so I can analyze and apply theory. Sounds boring, you say? Well, I'll post the dirt as well.
You may be interested to know that Jorge and I have taken up this blogging hobby together. On the eve of our 5 year anniversary ("resting periods" aside) we are moving forward technologically... Well, generally he moves forward and I follow, but in this case I think I'll be blazing the trail and he'll forget the blog in a few weeks' time.
So here's the deal: I'm still generating ideas, but I'm interested in writing about blogging as a form of confession. Why are we compelled to do it? Why do we feel the need to share our lives, our thoughts, our sins (if you will) with the whole wide world? How many of us keep personal journals? Why expose ourselves on the internet? What are the benefits? Risks? What about privacy? Do any of you have blogging buddies? A relationship that is only maintained via online posts? That's enough questions to get this research started... More soon.
