Hi :) I hope you're doing well! I know we haven't talked in a while. I wanted to ask you for a bit of help.

You might remember helping to name my snake Yu-Mei (icon), as she was a Chinese green snake. Unfortunately, she eventually grew older and passed away a while back. I was very sad; she was a lovely, gentle, inquisitive being who was a light in my life.

This week, I had the tremendous fortune to add a pair of her kind to my family. With greater knowledge of their care, and with better access to medicines for removing internal and external parasites, I'm hoping that we can talk these two lovely creatures into giving us some eggs. They are as exquisite and gentle as Yu-Mei was, and they'll be wonderful friends for education programs.

I'm writing to you to ask for help in naming them again. I don't want to re-use Yu-Mei's name, because it would make me sad to do that. One of them is a male, the other female, and they look just like her--beautiful, emerald-colored lovelies with smooth scales and gold eyes.

Here is a picture of one of them:

They look mostly alike; the other one is being shy right now :)

What a pleasant surprise to hear from you!

I am sad to hear that Jade Beauty has passed away.

Coincidentally, my wife and I are expecting twins! We don't know their gender yet - we're hoping for a boy and a girl, but will love them whether boy-boy or girl-girl, as well.

Traditionally, brothers or even male cousins sometimes a shared a name. As an example, my eldest maternal uncle's three sons all had the family name, then the word "Da" (Great, High, Large, Big) as one of the two words in their own name. The same would be done for sisters as well.

While these two are not siblings, they are all Chinese green snakes just like Yu Mei, so you may want to consider having Yu (玉, jade) as a part of their shared heritage, and then add another word to it for each individual. In this vein, some suggestions would be:

Yu-Li (Li as in 力 Strength)
Yu-Liang (Liang as in 亮 Bright/Liang)
Yu-Shen (Shen as in 神 Spirit/God)
Yu-Jing (Jing as in 金 Gold or 經 Classic)
Yu-Wei (Wei as in 偉 Greatness)
Yu-Ai (Ai as in 愛 Love)
Yu-An (An as in 安 Peace/Harmony)

If you're not quite into having all their names beginning with Yu, I'll try to think of some good combinations. You can also decide to go with three words/characters, perhaps all beginning with the same family name. Let me know what you think and good luck with your beautiful young snakes!

Thank you! I am very okay with the names starting with "Yu". I think I will definitely use some of your suggestions. Yu-Ling is #1 on my choice list, because of their beautiful gold eyes. I'll have to decide which one gets that name, and then choose the other :)

Congratulations on your incoming twins! That must have been quite a nice surprise :)
