I'm coming home on tuesday but not before a huge fucking stretch of work this weekend. German paper due Monday, not very long or too hard but it will take me an evening to write, which makes me not happy because of the longer, harder research paper for my realism class due the next day. I have to write a comparative essay on articles about Warhol's brillo box/"reality effects" that have different positions and go beyond what we've talked about in class- the problem being that we won't have actually gotten to that unit by the time the paper is due. Uh, yeah. it's a hard paper. I've been researching litereally all fucking week and doing nothing else. I probably shouldn't go out this weekend at all.
but when i DO come home, there are some definite bonuses:
1- Trenda is coming home for thanksgiving to meet the fam, see the house, hang out with the friends in the ROC so that we can basically start building our lives together as platonic life partners. yayyyy!
2- I GET TO SEE MY BABY BOY! LORYN, I'LL BE HOME SOON BROTHER, I MISS YOU SO MUCH!!
3- I get to see my shananana :) but not for turkey dinner :(
4- Ryan Miller and Rachel Mother Fucking Roberts and Joyln Chang
5-Family + Soporific Castle Family Rum Dums+ Soporific Turkey Dinner +Sleeping on my Couch + Thanksgiving Day MOVIE
6- JAVAS!
and i've been thinking about my internship for the summer and for study abroad so maybe going home won't be so bad when they ask me what i've been doing all month and i actually have an answer about my ideas. I want to go to an art school, my options are Melbourne, Australia, Goldsmith in London and Glascow in Scotland. I was reluctant about the last two but then I checked out their websites and course listings and they all look pretty fucking awesome to tell you the truth. Plus, Lauren P. Wadsworth will be in London or probably one of these. As for the internship, I've gotta clean up my resume and write some cover letters but Sarah and I found this Art Internship book at the CDO by location and field, and it basically looks amazing- there are some really cool options. I haven't had time to look at it in depth but it has contacts for gallaries, film companies, festivals, art managment, various other cool stuff. If I send out apps to a million of those, one has to take me.. right? I really am trying to get it together because its complicated enough for Sarah and I to try to find intern work in the same place & find housing & get $cash money$.
if anyone is interested in working in NYC or Boston area and wants to rent an apartment with us, we would totally be down with that.
also, we just started painting a nude male model in my art class and i am really excited for a number of reasons:
-first of all, i am just way, way, way, way, better and more interested and more relaxed doing figures than any still life or landscape
-i've never painted a male model before. actually, come to think of it, i've never even seen a fully naked dude up close and in person. this does not count streakers or crazy bonaroo festival go-er's or other strangers running around butt ass naked, but pretty much yeah i have never personally had any experience with completely naked dudes. go figure?
-i started experiementing with my color palatte- something that has consistantly been difficult for me since before i started doing art, i pretty much had never used anything but pencils & pens for doodling in class and never got to experiment with color fully. but i am starting to gain a better understanding of warms and cools versus value scales, and the palatte i'm using looks awesome thus far and is coming fairly easily. i hope i can stick with it throughout the piece, since we have only just started.
lately, after reading all of this shit about andy warhol and his super experimental art, and learning about more modern forms of art in my Realism class, i have been brimming with an urge to be creative. i keep wanting to just paint and paint and paint, not for a class, not necessarily finishing anything, but do quick things, experiment with color, experiment with canvas & mixed media, abstractions, SILK SCREENS, all sorts of shit. since all of my paint is at amherst, i expressed this by spray painting a blob on a peice of cardboard in my dorm room with the fans on, drawing on that with sharpie, and then making sarah my first hemp bracelet ever. i want time, time and an accessible studio so i can do that to my hearts content and not worry about getting oil paints all over all of my stuff or spilling things or whatever. i am a lazy artist. i need acessability. i have recently discovered that for 15 dollers I can join this art resource thing at UMASS and go to workshops and use certain materials if i pay for it etc. i basically have to take advantage of this, and i hope that i can find an alternative solution for my car this winter season so i can still be mobile.
okay i need to stop fucking around on the internet now because i haven't done anything and speaking of warhol, i need to be researching.
