wow, just wow.
i had the most awesome night ever.
words can't even begin to describe how much FUN i had.
Rachel, i wish you were there because you would have had the best time in the whole world.
you're awesome if you read this all.
it was definitely worth the wait (more than a month!)
my sister and i made shirts (mine said "i <3 rk" and hers said "i drove") and so we're walking to the END of the line which is all the way around the corner because people were waiting in line before the doors opened to the wiltern. so this guy says to my sister "so where did you drive from? are you from here?" so she's like "uh, i drove from home. and yes i am from here" (keep in mind that he hadn't seen my shirt yet) so he gives her a "wtf?" face and she just smiles and walks away and says "don't worry about it it's just an...inside joke!".
so we just continue to walk down to the end of the line, getting weird looks from all the "trendy wendy's" as maya so lovingly put it. everyone was dressed alike. it was quite astonishing. Okay, so we wait in line for another 30 minutes or so until i come across Maya and her father walking down to the end of the line. i call her name and we talk for a bit and she continues on down to the end of the extremely long line. we get inside and get situated and Maya and her dad find their seats while we find ours. they come and talk to us for a while and sit in the seats next to us (the one's closer up than their seats) and sit there for the first opening band, the brunettes.
i fell in love with the THE BRUNETTES. they are from new zealand and were simply charming. they were drinking, but that just added to how amusing and wonderful they were. there was mostly guys and one girl with a really cool voice. they played all kinds of different instruments including the guitar, TRIANGLE!, keyboard, drums, bass, XYLEPHONE (sp?), and a few other things. my favorite part was their ending song because when it talked about mary kate&ashley, the guys put on masks with mk&a's faces on them. that was amazing.
but that's not where the fun ended. FEIST came on. she is a one person band and was also very awesome. her main instrument was a guitar, but she played this other thing with her feet and tapped around the stage. her voice was also what made her awesome. she even asked during the middle of the show to use someone's cell phone so she could call her dad for fathers day. so she gets the cell phone, calls and leaves a message and had us all cheer and sing for the message machine. i thought that was so sweet.
okay, last but certainly not least.
RILO KILEY! now this was a performance that just blew me away. you can usually tell the quality of a band by how good they are live, and they proved to me that they were true artists. They played most of my favorite songs and didn't just stick to the new album in which they are trying to promote. i spent the majority of my time singing at the top of my lungs and looking at maya and smiling at her (because we got her better seats in front of us) and then just laughing. Jenny was beautiful and her voice just shone through the entire venue. blake danced around a lot and did a great guitar solo. in the end (for their encore) they turned down the stage lights and asked us to turn on the lights of our cell phones to light up the stadium. wow is all i can say. in the very end, they had one of their friends sing a nice song and then invited the brunettes&feist to do one last collaborative song.
i bought a bag. you probably don't care, but i do.
so afterwards, my sister and i tried to avoid all the crowding inside the building so we rushed outside where the people were handing us flyers and stickers (i got an RK sticker and a hot hot heat one) and drove home.
so, comment if you read all of that. if you didn't, i won't hate you.
good morning :)
