it's baffling how many gre vocabulary words are synonyms for slander/criticism/verbal abuse. and accordingly how many words we have in the english language for that kind of shit. we're awful, mean, (acerbic, acidulous, acrimonious...) people with our panties all atwist, and we want you to know about it.

aspersion
belittle
berate
calumny
castigate
decry
deflamation
denounce
deride/derisive
diatribe
disparage
excoriate
gainsay
harangue
impugn
inveigh
lambaste
objurate
obloquy
(OBLOQUY? who the hell says 'obloquy'? well, probably the same people who say 'calumny')
opprobrium
pillory

reprehend
reprove
revile
tirade
vituperative

holy vehement venomous shit, batman.

speaking of vehement venomous shit, here's some more...

i just discovered that the GRE general test fee is $130 and the subject test is $150 (to be taken in kent or leeds). you can get a fee waiver if you're a college senior on financial aid. however, now that i've graduated and have $40,000 MORE in loans coming than the $20,000 i have from vassar, i gotta hand over $280 more to try to get away from oxford and into a program that admits one or two people a year.

i have to prove i have money (i don't) to get a visa (which costs money) to be a student at oxford (which i can't afford) and i think even if i had money they'd deny me the visa because i lied to customs agents twice to get out of it before (because i couldn't afford it)

there are also a lot of words that mean "sick" or "disgusted." at least one thing i'm getting out of this graduate mess is the vocabulary to tell you in a myriad of ways how i am angry and sick and disgusted.

although i think "angry and sick and disgusted" pretty much sums it up.
