Embrace your inner geek

Okay, so for some of us, it's not exactly an inner geek, but I have rediscovered mine. Long boring story of how a quack of an ex-IT professional went about upgrading her motherboard/case assembly and was dead in the water because she started half-assed, with an "oh I can whip this out in no time" attitude and forgot rule #1: thou shalt reset the bios on the motherboard BEFORE thinking thee should install new hardware. And, having forgot rule #1, compounded it with abeyance of rules 2 and 3 (e.g. when installing an XP hard drive in a new case, ALWAYS make sure you have your install disk; and NEVER use someone else's setup disk in its stead). So, after a few (okay, more than a few) frustrating hours, I walked away from it--for about 2 weeks, maybe 3, only looking at it long enough to convince myself the elves hadn't been there & fixed it for me & doing a smidgen of research with Technet to convince me there was no easy recovery.

So, I finally resigned myself and sat down to move files of the stuff I wanted/needed/couldn't be parted from. And lo, the goddess IS good. For there, lurking on a paltry 6 GB hard drive that's now a slave, are all the music, soundbyte, and all around fun files I've missed for the last oh, 4-7 years. Yep, years. See, thought I'd lost 'em, so why look for 'em? Extra bonus: after moving my precious files to safe environs and starting from scratch, got the wonderful news that my antivirus believes itself to be a new install so is good for another year!

So, this would be my way of apologizing to all of you who wondered/hoped/feared I was dead. Nope, not dead, only dead to the internet. Now much happier, with 1.2GHz (as opposed to the old 450mHz--you know what they say about mechanic's cars? Same thing for IT pros' PCs) and finally can read email somewhere else than that stinkin' lite version they peddle. Yay!
