PSA: Canadians: Check your voting card

Oct 02, 2008 11:37

As in, make sure you got one. Each elector should have a Voter Information Card, which shows you've been registered to vote in the upcoming federal election. Because the voter lists are now compiled by government sources (such as driver's licence and health card), there are no more enumerators for Canadian elections1. So, if you've not yet got a voter information card, but are a Canadian citizen of 18 years of age or more, you can get one from your local Elections Canada office. Where is that? Well, look here, for information voters might need for Canadian elections.

If you've not yet had a VIC, call your local office and get one sent out. I just did so, despite having voted in the last provincial election - somehow, my name had slipped back to my old address, so they had to get it re-updated. Took about three minutes.

For whomever it is you might be voting, please do get your arse out there and do it, if you feel you can make an informed choice.

1 Which means, I suppose, that I have in my life worked at one *more* job which no longer exists: I was in the enumeration party for the 1993 federal election. :)

I've also served as a teletype operator (which I'm fairly sure has been made obsolete by now), and as a pen-and-ink graphic designer.
